I used M105/M205 this past weekend for the first time and I am happy with the results but im planning on detailing my daily driver in a few weeks and would like some suggestions on some other products to try.

Oh gee where to start lol!

Joe is this going to be a personal DD or for someone else?

its mine and my wifes daily driver...its a white 2010 VW Passat..since im new with this I want to try different products, so I figured I would see what people really like

Ok!

Compounds:
Menzerna FG400 great stuff but that is the most aggressive very similar to M101 as far as cut

Menzerna SI1500 Most aggressive polish offered by Menz

Blackfire SRC Compound

Optimum Compound II

Finishing Polishes:
Menz PF4000 or PF4500

Blackfire SRC Finishing Polish

Optimum Finishing Polish

Just to name a few!:dblthumb2:

I use the 3M line myself at times, I've always had good luck with it. Keep in mind though, the 3M line is meant to be used with a rotary, and doesn't work well with an orbital. I would suggest either the Blackfire SRC duo, or Menzerna, as those will work well with either orbital or rotary polishers.

I suggest a test spot on the VW with M205 with LC grey pad.
The results should give you an indication whether you have soft or hard paint on the VW and then better suggestion on polish can be recommended.

However, if I may... you have very good polishes with M105 and M205. I would suggest you master these polishes and experiment with different pad selections before you move on to other polishes.

that's a good point I think im getting to ahead of myself here

when I first bought the polisher back in march I did a test spot on my parents 2007 black jetta that is in bad condition...I did M205 with a orange pad and got no results then I tried M105 with an orange pad and it only got a little bit better...does that mean hard paint?

Yes. Traditionally VW are known for having hard clears.

Perfect your technique and pad/machine choices with what you have first, it will be easier to then compare products later and find what really suits your personal preference for each job the best.

FG400 is a favorite of mine, I use it on a rotary though. Cuts fast and finishes beautifully. I do a lot of heavily oxidized single stage stuff though that doesn't need any more gloss than the FG400 provides. PF2500 is a nice one step.SF4000 or SF4500 finish nice.

Again though, get a feel for what you have first then it is easier to compare later on.

I'm taking your advice and sticking with what I got and continuing to practice

I used the Chemical Guys line, either the V optical series or the 700 oem series. Have had great results with both!
