Compound with a perfecting pad?

Ran into an issue while doing my car. After IronX, clay, and HD Speed using the GG orange correcting pad, the car still had fine straight line scratches visible under the LEDs. (they were doing construction in front of my office for a month and the car was coated in concrete dust). Anyway, being unsatisfied, I knew I was going to have to use a compound. The problem was all my correcting pads were soaked in HD Speed leaving me with only my GG yellow perfecting pads to use. I thought there was no way a perfecting pad was going to do anything but to my surprise, it worked flawlessly.

So this is completely backwards in my eyes. I compounded with a "perfecting" pad and polished with a "correcting" pad and it worked? I am so confused. LOL

Btw, I was using Megs ultimate compound on the yellow pads. Did I get lucky or just stumbled on to a good combo?

Mixing and matching pads and abrasives is common practice. You definitely didn't do anything wrong.

This is where the test spot process we all talk about comes into play. It's all about finding the right combination for the job. In this instance, a dedicated polish may have worked a bit better than HD Speed. Often AIO's have a milder abrasive than normal polishes.

Something else you can try is a polish on a more aggressive pad. I've found in some cases that using a more aggressive pad with a polish often does the same correcting as a compound on a lighter pad, but will actually finish out a little better.

You should be good. HD speed isn't really a compound.
