So Kaspersky is the best? I have Trend Micro Internet Security right now, the firewall + antivirus. Didn't buy it

killrwheels@autogeek said:I too use Norton ... I buy Systemworks w/ Firewall each year off Ebay for like 25.00 shipped. Easily removes the old version, and new version is loaded and Livewire is always pulling the latest upgrades without notice. I am sure its not the best, but its top 10 offering and I luckily have (knocking on wood) never had an issue. No quarantines ... and several warnings that email contained malicious content before opening !

Which would you recommend?I'm a new member and an IT guy with 27 years experience. There is quite a bit of misinformation being given on this subject, but then there was some good also. I'm not about to jump in on this subject except to say "you're not as wise as you think if you depend on anyone's free version". Just because your hard drive hasn't been toasted in no way reflects what is or could be happening to your pc when you're online.
With the prolific spyware and virus threats on the internet there is no one product that can protect you at a 100% detection and removal rate. If you search you will find that the top players in the antivirus and spywareware removal software business change about every three months or so.
I also hear many people say you don't have to worry about someone breaking into your pc's at home because becuase businesses are where the real "grab" is. I finally installed a hardware firewall last year at home and it is amazing how many attempts there are to break in at my home. I accidentally left one of my firewall rules unchecked for two days while doing some testing and my firewall was broken into from Taiwan and the Phillipines. It appeared that the only thing done was a look at my firewall configuration.
To summarize I will say that antivirus software is kind of like car wax and polish. There are some much better than others, but each has it's own following. Some do a great job and some only do an o.k. job. The final results are in the hands of the one selecting and selecting the "tool".
Remember this, even with my experience I can't begin to know everything and some protection is better than none. Just make sure to keep your software current and updated.

I'm still absolutely loving kaspersky which runs out 4/6/08, thats o.k cause lately I've been "practacing" on the piratebay
. NOD32 is really liked on torrent sites more so then Kaspersky (but still recommended as a solid program). I'd definitely but this program (or NOD32) without hesitation.
