So far all my life ive ran nothing but straight pennzoil conventional oil.(5w30 & 5w20). Never any engine issues. Also always ran a quality oil filter. Usually wix xp filters.

For some reason i can't find it anywhere in person anymore. If i think i do it says synthetic blend, and im not wanting to switch. Ive read years ago that once you switch to synthetic then you can't go back to conventional.

I know the basics that there are...semi synthetic, full synthetic and all that jazz. But blends?

Anyone having a good knowledge on the topic? Thanks

That was the past. All the oils can be switched anytime you want, semi synthetic to synthetic back to conv if you want, it doesn’t matter. However synthetic oil’s have come down in price so much that it’s almost ridiculous to use anything but a full synthetic.

You can read for days about oil over at Bobistheoilguy.com

That's just an old wives tale about switching between the Dino and synthetic. Think about this, some synthetics have base stock Dino oil in them. Another old myth is if you run Dino oil and then start running synthetic oil you develop oil leaks.

Not sure why you can't find Dino oil anymore but it could be because the oil mfgs are stepping up to synthetic blends for longer intervals.

You could contact a company like Blackstone Labratories for more info on your concerns as they test oils all day long

If you make the switch to semi-synthetic or full synthetic keep using those Wix filters, they're one of the best brands on the market along with Baldwin. Alot of semi trucks run Wix and Baldwin and that alone speaks volumes

Cool thanks for the incite guys. Ill switch over. I was not sure. Yinz helped me ease the mind lol

Glen e ive read bobstheoilguy b4 years ago about oil filters. I fell down the rabbit hole lol...learned about the differences.

Klasse which is how i learned about wix. I used to run baldwin b4 that because i seen them being run on some heavy equipment when i first go into the local.

^^^ What Glen & Roger said ^^^

I have been using "Blends" for years now with zero problems.

As long as the oil you use has an SAE rating, and you use the proper weight oil, you won't have any problems at all.

FWIW I'm currently running Motul XS3100 5w40 full synthetic and a Wix oil filter. It will be just about due for a change when I get back from my trip to Tennessee, back to the thinner stuff for winter.

I’ve only used Mobil 1 full synthetic in all of our Honda and Toyota vehicles over the last 15+ years. No issues.

Mobil One in my Accord, Castrol Edge in my A4, and dino Castrol GTX in my Caddy

Yeah, that's the way Roger rolls.

He also uses a blend of Italian & Czechoslovakian gasoline.

He's a freak like that...... ;)

NAPA still carries plenty of conventional motor oils.

While you're there, pick up a NAPA oil filter that's the same as Wix, just with a different paint job.

Lol yeah my local store had no conventional. Which is fine cuz ill jump to synthetic. But their oil prices are way higher than other places.

And ive bought their golds and platinum filters once i found out wix makes them . They were outta stock on 2 filters i needed. One of them they couldn't get at all. This world is ridiculous anymore lol

The ONLY time I had an issue with switching from conventional to synthetic was on a car which ALREADY leaked oil. When I got married, my wife's Jeep Cherokee had lots of slow drips from multiple places. When I switched to synthetic, the drips turned into more worrisome leaks, so I switched back to conventional why we tried to find and fix all of them...never totally successful, but that's a different story.

If I have a car with conventional oil, I typically make the switch to synthetic at the first oil change and never look back.

I've run AMSOIL in the Camaro since I bought it with 25K miles. It now has 148,8xx K on it and no issues.
