Converting Rotary Speeds TO DA Speeds

Many manufacturer's instructions are written using rotary speeds, but many of us are using DAs and direct-drive DAs. Does anyone have a rule of thumb on how to convert rotary speeds to DA machine speeds?Feed back please
 
Depends on the situation.

If I had a rule of thumb to stick by, compounding and polishing would be in the 4-5 speed range with varying pressure. I rarely use 6, and would recommend against 6 when using microfiber pads. For spreading wax speed 2 works well. Again depends on the situation and what get's results.

These speeds are for the 7424XP and Griot's 6". For the Flex and Rupes I'll let those owners chime in.
 
the most i've used on my griots 6" is 5.5 for compound. Mostly use 4.5-5. Spreading wax/sealant i'm usually 3

I don't know of a RPMs to OPMs conversion chart.
This, more or less:
Becomes an apples to oranges comparison.

However...
•For PC-type DAs...ones with "shorter machine strokes...(compared to the ones with "longer machine strokes")...
Going by the 1:20 rule, has generally worked for me.
-Multiply each RPM by 20 for the approximate OPMs. Or:
-Divide the OPMs by 20 to obtain the approximate RPMs.

Examples:
•PC 7424XP DA, @ Dial Speed 6 =
6800 OPMs = ~ 340 RPMs

•Flex 3401 XC VRG Direct Drive DA, @ Dial Speed 6 =
9600 OPMs = ~ 480 RPMs

•Still working on the RUPES "long throws":
-Is the 1:20/20:1 "rule-of-thumb" still applicable?

Note:
The above numbers reflect "no load" speeds, and are
just a guideline. Approximate is the definitive word here.

I never really thought about it too much and have refined my rotary speeds to a "feel the need" setting coupled with product used. I admit that i could rip off my dial on my PC and wire in a simple 3 step setting...6 for ALL correction, 4 for wax/sealant application and OFF.

I do understand the question, though, and it is a great question if you are a 100% DA user. I will also be "dialing in" specific settings like i currently do with my rotary whenever i get a Flex.
