I am going to be doing a correction with Fg400 and P085RD on a black vette.. Question is he has 2 small stripes along the hood and the decklid. DO i tape them off? I would think hitting them with a wax or DA would ruin or fade the stripes or pull the edges up?

Im thinking maybe tape them off and spray with the Aero 303?

thoughts..help is greatly appreciated

Cody

If they are matte finish you don't want to polish them.

careful with those stripes even a DA can damage them if you are not carefully tape it. If you are going to corrected you will go over must areas a few passes so if 100% safer if you take your time and tape it down those stripes.

Do not go anywhere near the stripes with petes 53. That stuff with stain them.

I think chemical guys now carries a product for matte finish. If I'm not mistaken.

I dont know about that product, but i know that Opti-Coat can be used on matte finishes. :)

I have a question, what did guys do years ago when there were no matte specific washes on Mopar cars with the matte areas?

The matte stripes usually were not just vinyl decals laid over CC-paint.

Regular car wash soaps (no fancy, schmancy, "Nancy shampoos") were often used to wash the entire vehicle.
I liked P&G products dish washing products (Joy, Dove, Dawn) to help keep the dullness of matte paint going strong.

My '70 GTX and '71 Duster appreciated my doing so.
