Corvette Museum Sinkhole

The musuem moved the '83 to a different location becuase it is priceless.

I called and offered my garage but they would not take me up on the offer. :xyxthumbs:

I wouldnt say "overpriced" because thats very subjective. Though I would say people think more expensive is somehow "better" Thats not always the case, clearly.

With that said, the list goes on of how many cars the monster Corvette ZR-1 eats for breakfeast, lunch & dinner. European sissy cars like the M3 are included in the vettes diet.

The M3 is a "sissy car" ???

Really unfortunate. Hopefully the damaged cars can be salvaged.

It is a shame when any significant part of history is destroyed. These cars cannot be duplicated nor replaced.
IMHO: The Corvette is an icon.
Hate to see any of them subjected to this kind of "Car Show".

Many a Man, while growing up, had dreams about driving down the highway of life, on a beautiful summer’s day, with a gorgeous babe beside him in a Corvette.
I know I did (occasionally).

With that being said...I will repeat that:
The Corvette is an icon...
The fiberglass version of "The Field of Dreams":
If you have one, she will come.

Bob

The Corvette IS an icon and this really sucks for sure!

Yeah. Don't you know it? This is America. Bigger always is better. More horsepower + big V8 always = better car. Them 'Vettes will smoke that there M3. M3 = girly man car. Vette = big 'Merican Man Car. USA #1.

We all need more huge cookie cutter McMansions filled with 60" TVs - all with Vettes and the biggest SUVs Detroit can make in every driveway. All with 22" Chrome wheels if at all possible. No taste & no class required. Just make everything as big as possible.

Sounds like you have an issue that goes far deeper than just your hate for American cars. Theres no car more American than the Corvette IMO. Maybe me being a U.S Soldier gets me touchy on topics involving "Merica", especially when iconic cars like these get destroyed.

I for one, am glad this happened when the museum was closed. Could you imagine the furor if people were caught in that sinkhole during normal business hours?

Here's some video shot inside the sinkhole by a drone helicopter

GM has already come into play and announced they will repair/restore the models as possible. The head of the factory has also pledged monetary support.

Cars harmed:
-- a 1962 "Black Corvette"
-- a 1984 PPG pace car
-- a 2009 ZR1 "Blue Devil"
-- the 1992 white "1 Millionth Corvette"
-- a 1993 ruby red "40th Anniversary Corvette"
-- a 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette
-- the 2009 white "1.5 Millionth Corvette"
-- a 1993 ZR-1 Spyder

Still got the Japanese OEMs, plus some of the German SUVs can tow a bit.
IMO, the sink hole represents the bailout, and the priceless cars is our tax dollars that we'll never see again. But that's a whole other thread.:)

Name any german/japanese vehicle that can tow what a 3/4 and 1 ton truck can........

The way you're talking about chevy, ford, dodge an all them can fall in a sink hole or burn where you going to get a truck?

Nissan. Don't care if the towing capability is less or the Hp is less or whatever. They are reliable. My Pathy is 14yo and as good as new. I would buy a Nissan truck in a second.

Sorry. I like our military and appreciate what they do. Just don't like American cars.

Great analogy, and also a beautifully polished can of worm.

One of the youtube comments suggested that they should install a glass floor and turned it into an exhibit, like from the movie Demolition Man.
