Costco MF question

They will marr the paint if used to remove polish.

He won't be using MFs for that, at the most he'll do wax, but I'll let him know their uses and limitations. Besides, that's something he won't do for months anyways.

i realy like the mf from sams club better than cosco

What brand are they? Do you know if they have them in stock now?

Sam's club would mean I need to ask the mother-in-law for favor....

I've used the Kirkland Gold MFs for RW and they work just fine.

As part of a kit for someone who isn't obsessed with detailing they will work well. The goal is for him to keep his car clean, not necessarily show-car-presentable.

I agree. My wife bought me a "bale" of Costco MF not knowing any better, and I have found them to be a decent towel. I won't use them on the paint on her black car, but I used them for RW washes on all my white and silver cars (4) all last Winter with no ill effects. I do use them on the plastic parts of her car (new Jeep Cherokee so there is a lot of plastic cladding) for RW washing. You probably have to use a few more towels for a dirty wash, but I have had no problems.

my experience has been the opposite, i like the costco kirkland mf towels better than the sam's club proforce. they are thicker, softer, and last longer after repeated washings...

Bumping this thread back up!

Soo....I have a ton of these towels and feel they are super soft and would be safe for drying. I've used these for last couple of months for drying (being very anal about them being clean, the ones I use for drying). I read I think in this thread or another that these can 'mar' if used for polish removal?? Is that true?

I've used them to do just that....and didn't notice it. I did have some 'holograms' though and now this would probably explain it! :(

It was on my mom's BMW 5 series which has pretty hard paint.

Am I just better off buying softer towels then? What about specific 'polish' towels? So lost now I feel... :(

I have used only kirkland microfiber for detailing and they are great. Definitely remove the tags on them and do not overheat them in the wash.

Larry Kosilla uses them on paint all the time

Interesting....

I would think he uses his own brand towels....didn't know that.

Thanks ofr the info though. They feel 'plush' and soft, I actually perferred them to some other softer higher GSM towels when it comes to taking polish off too. I just was unsure how to feel after reading mix results on here about folks who use them and mostly keep them for engine, interior and door jambs.

Regarding the kirkland towels. When this topic was first started they used a thinner more yellow towel. In my opinion they were prone to marring softer paint. Now they sell a more plush version that is a more gold color. Totally different towel.

At least in my personal experience The edges become very hard and stiff after several washes so I relegate them to wheels and door jambs. When they're relatively new, I'll use them on paint.

The ones we get at Costco here in Canada are yellow dual nap and soft, but they are still regulated for interior use, windows, door jams and wheels. Mine don't touch the paint
