Anytime I get questions via e-mail, a PM or a FB message I prefer to invest my typing time where

A: It's easier for me to share links, pictures and videos.

B: More people can read and thus benefit from the information. (no just one set of eyeballs

So I get an e-mail asking,

Good afternoon Mike,

Could you please recommend a sealant that last 1 year?

Thanks

Here's my reply...

Hi Matt,

How long anything lasts depends upon

HOW YOU TOUCH IT

And by how you touch it I mean, how you wash the car.

If you wash a car with a brick no wax or sealant is going to last very long.

If you wash a car with a clean, soft wash mitt and you DON’T scrub the paint then a wax or sealant may last up to 6 months.

It all comes down to how you wash the paint.

I’d go with SONAX Polymer Net Shield.

Sonax Polymer Net Shield, sonax polymer netshield, sonax profiline polymer netshield

In order for the SONAX Polymer Net Shield to form a proper bond to the paint you’ll want to,

1: Wash and dry car
2: Clay paint to remove any contaminants
3: Machine polish to perfect the paint.
4: Apply the SONAX Polymer Net Shield

Then wash carefully like I show here,

Hope that helps, here’s your question on the forum

Speaking of sealants, if I use an AIO, like Menzerna 3 in 1, what could I top it with? I guess a sealant isn't the best choice because the AIO leaves some sort of wax that will prevent the sealant from bonding properly? Is wax the only option to use on top of an AIO?

Thanks

In my experience and in my opinion you can top any cleaner/wax or AIO with either a wax or a sealant.

Bonding is the least of my worries and I've never seen a fresh coat of wax or sealant slip off the paint and pile up around the car on the garage floor after application due to an improper bond.

I agree with Mike, Sonax Polymer Net Shield

Easy and quick to apply. Excellent longevity. You should be able to seal an average car in 30 minutes or less. I would also suggest investing in their shampoo, it really adds to the gloss and longevity of PNS. Don't let the size of the bottle fool you, it's highly concentrated and you only need about an ounce. It works out to about .50 cents per wash.

I had applied PNS to my wifes car a few months ago and found a sample of the shampoo a couple weekends ago and tried it out. It restored the beading as you can see in the photo and left a nice slick shine behind. It won me over for maintaining PNS. Our dd's don't get babied, this had not been washed since first application of PNS and no maintencance sprays etc, real world test.

My wife's car had PNS applied last November. I have yet to see the beading fade. I'll be doing my spring polishing soon so it will be polished off before it ever dies.

Have you tried their shampoo, I was blown away and I'm not easily impressed. The PNS bounced right back. I'll be using it as my maintenance wash for PNS from now on.

Custmsprty....

I like that microfiber towel. Where did you get that from?

I've used SPNS for a few years and it's a great product! I've also enjoyed chemical guys Jet Seal and have found it lasts just as long, but is even easier to apply! I like putting it on a finishing pad and spread an even layer over the cars paint (and windshield too if it's been properly prepped!). I can zip around the car in 15 minutes this way. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes and buff it off with ease!

As already stated, it's all about the prep. An extra bonus is doing a wipe down with an IPA solution after polishing to allow the sealant to bond with the surface even better!

And just to comment on this because this topic of bonding causes a LOT of confusion...

If a person WANTS to chemically strip their car's paint because they think, believe or have been convinced in some manner that removing any residual polishing oils off the surface will enable the wax or synthetic sealant they are going to use will be better able to bond to the paint then God bless them and go for it.

Far be it from me to stop a person from pursuing their passion.

For everyone else, here's what I posted on this topic in post #4 of this thread as the person that started this thread had asked about chemically stripping...

What the above article explains, from information gathered from a REAL chemist, is that you DON'T have to chemically strip the paint after polishing and before waxing or applying a sealant in order for one of these product to form a proper bond.

I never do.

How does WG DGPS stack u to PNS? Is it no longer the king?

I have used Sonax PNS on some of my vehicles. I get 9-10 months on my very abused daily driver. I get about a year on my other vehicles. Hard to say since I usually reseal every 6-12 months. The beading, sheeting, and self cleaning abilities are the closest to a coating of any sealant I have personally tried.
I wash, clay, polish with M205 then apply PNS. I tried a wipe down one time and to be honest, I didn't see a difference. IMO, PNS is a great product that deserves more love than it gets.

If you guys like PNS, then give Meguiars Ultimate Fast Finish a try.

Works the same as PNS, but at a third of the cost.
