Couldn't be More Disappointed in my Flex 3401

You can never go wrong with your Makita. All the power tools they manufacture are top notch. Yesterday I was installing a fan on my back porch and dropped my Makita cordless drill off of a 10 foot ladder onto concrete. No damage at all.
I almost always use my Makita for correction and finish off with my PC

I have a Makita, I've had it for 9 years now... geez, I don't like the thought of that. Anyway, I used it for a while, and haven't used it in a long time, because I'm "afraid" of rotaries. I just need to ask friends and family to let me practice on their "less" than exotic cars, haha.

Has nothing to do with my technique, if that's what you're implying. We all have our preferences. Just because everyone and their Mom praises the 3401, doesn't mean I have to. It's a very capable tool, I just don't like using it. As far as the PE-14, well, I haven't mastered a rotary, and have no desire to. As long as I get the desired results, it doesn't matter what tools I use.

Mark,

So true and very well said!! :dblthumb2:

We all have our likes and dislikes and like most thinks 1 size doesn't necessarily fit all...

Honestly, it seems like your not the only one who doesn't like the forced rotation Flex DA. I'm not sure why your average person would need/want a forced rotation machine unless your detailing for a living. If your a hobbyist, it may take longer to correct your car the first time with a PC like device, but after that it shouldn't get so swirled / damaged you need much more than an orange pad on a PC with a medium polish. Actually, I am still using an original 7424 and it seems pretty poweful to me, it's just time consuming. Also, I am able to get great results with it, but I had to practice using it. But, I mean, how often do you polish your car? Once every 6 months or a year? Why would a hobbyist need or want a Flex DA?

There's nothing wrong with adding some new technology to any hobby providing you can afford it. Even a hobbyist can benefit from the Flex 3401 in terms of speed and uniformity. Because the Flex 3401 is quite a different animal it could be just he ticket for some that takes them from hobbyist to a earning a living because of time and productivity...

Not refering to your detailing technique rather frequent change of opinion that stands out and becomes too obvious.
