Hello guys and girls, my first post on this site and damn happy to be here.

I'm from the SF/Bay Area, Pleasanton specifically and am very anal about my car.
She's a Black '95 BMW 540 and has been very good to be, as I have been to her.
From the detailing "stuff" I've bought here and to keeping her shining the year thru, we've been very happy together. :D

Here's my first question, I've been using the "Big Blue Towel" for many years and have been very happy with them, BUT, is there something I've been missing?
Is there another towel out there that would make me as happy, or happier, please enlighten me.

No one can change my mind on the Klasse Kit I currently use, but I'd like a wax to put over my sealant glaze and from what I've been reading, the Souveran paste seems to be the ticket.
Now I see/read there's a new one out that's about half the price, so NOW I'm even more confused on which one to get.
From my past experiences, the most expensive has not always been the "best", so which one of the two above will work BEST on my BLACK car?
Being's that my car is a garage Queen, I've had some tell me to skip the sealant glaze and go right for a good wax, but I really have a hard time with that, so you guru's tell me what you think about that, please!

So in a nut shell, this is what I need to order ASAP:

1. Wax
2. I think I like the Mega Applicator Combo Kit too
3. Some drying towels (something comparable or better than "Big Blue")
4. Towels/cloths to remove waxes and polishes (Klasse & Souveran )
5. I also like the looks of the Cobra Microfiber Wash Mitt (I have something like this in Blue now, but don't remember where I got it) how's this item?

I think that this will be it for awhile, Bimmerfest is coming up on May 5th, so I need to get to detailing now! :awesome:

Thanks for reading and please give me some opinion's folks,

Keith

I'll suggest based on your numbered list....:

1. Souveran, especially for a black car. It makes the solid colors look wet, while the cheaper (Signature Series II) wax makes the lighter metallics and pearls "pop", as it is referred as.

2. I don't know that kit, sorry. lol.

3. The Guzzler. Cobra makes a waffle weave microfiber towel specially designed for drying. Many on this foum, including myself, swear by this product.

4. Any of the Cobra microfiber towels will suffice, and excede your expectations.

5. The mitt is ok. I suggest the SchMitt. It is extremely soft so it will not introduce any new scratches or swirls. Likewise, the design is circular, so it really sticks to your hand and won't slop around like most other mitts.

PS WELCOME!!!

Welcome, Keith! Looking forward to seeing pics of your BMW! As you know, we all love pics over here! :D

Answers to your questions:
1. Souveran paste wax looks best on black!! (from what I've seen/read. I have no personal experienct with it!)

2. No answer. LOL

3. Cobra Guzzler is what I use, and alot here do the same. I guess any quality waffle-weave MF towel will do.

4. I use Cobra Indigo MF. I don't think it's back in stock yet. Cobra's plush MF are great too. Shorter nap on one side for removal, longer nap on the other side for buffing.

5. I use the Edge Wash Shmitt. It's quite a hit here. On the POLL, it's got a slight edge over the MF wash mitt.

I'm not a pro detailer, just a weekend warrior on my own vehicles. You'll get even more info/answers in a while, when the big boys log in!! :D

Welcome Keith, i have one of the big blue towels, same as the guzzler. For your black BMW I would use Souveran. I have tried @ dozen different waxes on my black C6 and nothing compares to Souverans depth and shine it provides.

Yeah, kind of what I thought, so it WILL be the Souveran for me.

You know, you mention a Black C6, 2 weeks ago I had a Detail Day at my house, which I do every year in April to learn some techniques from each other.
With 18 BMW's in attendance the car we did the detailing on was my Cousin's Black C5 Z06, I thought you might get a kick out of that. ;)
His car left here like new, actually probably better than new and HE drove away with a big smile on his face.
The thing we still need to do is get some wax on his car, we did the Klasse treatment, but I'm going to get him some Souveran too.

Thanks for your input as well! :)

:iagree: :iagree: Welcome to the forums, Keith. :)

Polycharged UPP and Souveran Paste = priceless bliss for black finishes.

Instead of giving you any advice, I just want to welcome you, Keith. Everyone here is really cool, and they will help you in any detailing situation, and even then some!
AG rocks! Welcome, Keith!

Why Thank You, Thank you very much.

Well, I ordered all my "stuff", or I thought I did, but after hitting the "pay" button, I realized I forgot the Smitt Washing Foam Pad, so I called and hopefully it was added I will have to pay the extremely high 3 day air charge to get the "stuff" to me by Thursday.

I guess someone is supposed to email me today to get the additional payment (3 day air and the Smitt), but I've yet to hear from anyone and I have to go to bed now, pulled an all nighter at work last night.

I need my stuff! :(

hey ..welcome...and all the suggestions everyone ells gave are awesome...the guzzler is amazing...i sleep with it at night its so soft...ummm im jk...and the shmitt feels like ur rubbing butter on ur car..and the yellow rought side makes its great for getting rid of those stubborn little bugs

Commonly you will find all of us to value our cars more than friends, family, and even spouses. Even Lauren !!

I dont specifically know anyone big or blue (isnt that crazy kids dinosaur purple) but I am only treating my beauty to Microfibers. 10-100x's softer than silk. Ever wore silk panties, I think you get the picture. :p

Guzzlers rock for drying, as they lock in the water. I would also consider some jr fluffies and indigos at a minimum.

Klasse AIO is good, Klasse SG is finickier than your mother-in-law however. Together they make a nearly bulletproof combo for six months of protection. Add a topper and you are seeing the best of combo's IMO.

Souveran Paste is hands down the best carnauba offering this side of 1000.00 smackers. That said, SSII is not a replacement or enhancement for Souveran. Its an enhancement for Pinnacles Paste Glaz and made for lighter colors and metallics as it uses some reflective polymers that Souveran doesnt. Paste Glaz was upgraded to Sig Series several years back, and once again leaped to SSII because of VOC regulations and some new polymer technology.

In waxes specifically, usually more pricer options are better. Now not all, but consider these are not Wally World waxes here meeting a price point to sell to the masses. Hand pouring (Souveran Paste) and other top end ingredients are not cheap and thus past off to the end buyer.

As a garage keeper, you could use Souveran paste without the Klasse twins underneath. You will cut out some durability, but can keep the Souveran tops by using the Pinnacle Wash, and Souveran Spray Wax booster. (hint, kits are best value for a reason)

In closing Keith, this is detailing not solving world peace. Drink a cold beverage of your choice, tackle that black finish, and continue to treat her like a queen. Just dont let us find you smacking her around ;)
