Counterweight PC?

Ok, basic ? from an oldie here...
I am waiting on new 5.5 flats and HT LC pads to arrive this week!
I have basically only used the Edge system since I got into this years ago. It has a counterweight that says for 6" pads only.

To use my new pads, do I take off the counterweight or leave it on? Thanks
 
I have a 14 year old 1st generation which says the same thing and I use 5 1/2" and 4" without issues...

Because there's so little difference between the two diameters I'd leave it on...
 
The use of counterweight is related to sanding...
For polishing/compounding just leave as it is.
