So yesterday (and all night for that matter) I detailed this new from dealer Mercedes C300. What a beautiful ride. I ventured out of my comfort zone to try the HD line of paint correction using my Flex 3401 and my new Flex PE8 which I scored a fantastic open box deal from Autopia (thanks Ray)
After 2 bucket wash using Pinnacle suds, I clayed using a fine grade Nankoskin Mitt. From there I dove into HD Cut using a white LC pad on speed 4. I tried a less aggressive method using Pinnacle Advanced Polish, then Advanced Swirl remover but was shocked to see the amount of defects and fine surface scratches this car had being a few days old. I have the exact same vehicle as my personal car and its about 7 months old and is in 100X better shape than this was new...quite odd to say the least.
I was shocked at how well HD Cut worked...at first I was using a little too much product and it was causing a tremendous amount of dust...I eased off and used just 2 pea size drops per panel, and success! It easily blew through all the surface scratches and left a mirror finish, so well in fact that I saw no need to polish after. Used Carpro Eraser as the directions state and the car was prepped for a coating.
Now onto CQUARTZ UK. I was very excited to give this a first time spin as I have been quite loyal to PBL Coating. I must say, it goes on smooth like silk, and although I was initially annoyed at the fact I had to purchase additional small Carpro microfiber towels, it ended up being a blessing as the product with just a few drips on the towel applies to the paint as smooth as butter. I applied 1 coat to each panel of the vehicle and followed it up with my infrared heat lamps for an ultimate finish. I know some have complained about it flashing too quickly, and I completly disagree...As long as you go panel by panel, the high spots come off quite easy with a microfiber towel.
I must say looking at the car this morning even on this overcast day here in New England, I am very impressed at the look of the CQUARTZ UK...The applicator towels are hard indicating that this stuff truly forms a barrier of protection. While the paint is not as smooth as other coatings I have used in the past, what I like (and I know some don't) is the fact it made the black paint even darker and richer. Before the customer came to pick up the car I hit it with 2:1 diluted Carpro Reload and that really made the car pop and feel a lot smoother to the touch. It is definitely the missing piece that made the exterior perfect.
Hopefully the customer will return the vehicle as I recommended in 6 months for a Reload application and a fresh maintenance cleaning.
All in all the HD Cut compound is amazing, and for the price, you really can't go wrong! As for the CQuartz UK, well I might of found my new goto coating. Hope you enjoy the review and pictures.
