Its so annoying to see people advertising theyre "detailing" business on craigslist now days. I get on there just to look at the prices people charging in my area. 25-100 dollars for a "FULL DETAIL" that takes 2 hours 25$ more for buffing...HAHA youve got to be kidding me? and these are not just people doing this as a side job, most of the advertisements are fixed location shops. Does this happen in your area?
 
I actually made an advertisement on there, hey it's free. There is only a couple other ads for detailing most of them just saying how experienced they are and how cheap it is. Plus all of them are typed in caps. Yes it is annoying.
 
I feel like it is ruining our profession. Im actually going to advertise on there but im really going to put some thought and time into it. I know all these people advertising on there are production detailers and dont take any pride in theyre work. So my plan was to set myself apart from them and explain how im different and acutally know what im doing.

I frequent CL but won't advertise there.
Their method might just be a marketing ploy to get prospective customers into the brick'n mortar.
 
I have guys advertise on CL in my area. Their prices are way lower than mine it never seemed to affect me much. Customers who want to deal with a professional business call me. People who want to take a chance with some guy on Craigslist call them. After dealing with a CL detailer they usually call me the second time. I wound not advertise on CL because the people on CL are usually looking for deals(low price). That is not the clientele i'm looking for. If you need busy work or experience why not try CL its free.
 
Hey those are the guys making money unfortionutly. Also I learned starting cheaper works better. And they really don't ruin anything for those who do "real detailing". Your work speaks for itself.
 
I posted on there a few times but have since let it lapse. I got a couple of decent customers but more than not, like previously said it was people looking for a dirt cheap detail for their beater, aside from that I got calls from people pretending to be clients that I feel we're other detailers, wanting to know my exact product list. Thats a secret and it was annoying!

I won't even post in my area. My area's so called detailers all charge under $100 for full details.
Seen a good one today..."summer special,15 cars and 25 SUVs for a showroom detail"...yea

All my customers come from good word of mouth. Craigslist attracts spam and people looking for a $60 full detail.
You most likely don't want these customers as they can be more of a problem then anyone.
They want to pay next to nothing and expect their car to come out looking brand new again.
 
Not posting on Craigslist is just crazy. I get plenty of $100 + jobs off craigslist. It's a big help, especially in the winter.

When I first started detailing professionally, I didn't even have a website and managed to pull in 2-3 cars a week from Craigslist alone.

There are good paying customers on craigslist. You just have to set yourself apart from the craigslist rednecks charging $50.

I no longer post prices on craigslist. I just have nice html ads with links to my website, facebook and blog. If business gets a little slow, I post everyday and sometimes twice a day.

There's nothing unfortunate about making money. No offense to any of the guys on this forum, but many of them don't understand the difference between detailing a car or two on the side and running a detailing business. It's cool to remove every single swirl, but the average person doesn't see those things! They see bugs in their grill and nasty spilled gunk in their cupholders...that's it!

If you get a $50 job off craigslist, give the customer $50 worth of work (probably 2 hours of work or less and then move on to the next job).

A good business person and good detailer imho, takes advantage of every possible dollar and customer, whether he's paying $50 or $500.
 
I advertise on CL. Actually a lot of my biz comes from there. I've gotten from just regular DD to high end Jags & Mercedes. The more advertising the better. I also include a link to my website & facebook which sets me aside from the " Wash your car for $25 dollars at your home!" people lol yes they are annoying but I rather turn down the cheap-o's and wait for the people whole are willing to pay for professional detailing. If you do good work, your biz will spread before you know it.

I find Craig's List one of the most cumbersome annoying websites to navigate through....
