Hi,

I never sold anything on Craigslist nor even visited the site, Ebay is way to expensive now.

What are you experiences using Craigslist to buy/sell?

I have tires and rims with less than 1000 miles to sell.

Thanks
Mark

Hell, I can't even figure out how to navigate for search it easily.....:dunno:

It want's me to search a state, I want to search the whole country....

Never had a problem with the site or sellers.
My deal yesterday went smoothly, great communication, but I did google the address...$858,000 house value...so I kinda figured that I was in a safe neighborhood.

Safety is a concern. If the item I'm selling is easily movable I will meet the buyer at a public place. If I do sell from my home I take a few easy precautions like asking the neighbor to keep an eye on things until buyer leaves. I conceal carry during the sale and never go inside my home. Front yard works just fine. A little overkill maybe but It works for me. Keep in mind one thing, In God we trust, everyone else pays cash.

I have bought a lot of audio gear from Craigslist. A couple of months ago I drove 200 miles to buy a speaker system for 4K.

I have only sold a couple of things on there, but never encountered any problems.

The biggest problems are the no shows when I put stuff in the "FREE" section.

I've bought/sold/traded everything imaginable on Craigslist. Great site for sure; you just have to be smart.

If you're going to list your phone number in an ad, do it like this...

555-five-five-six-8888

Same thing with an email address...

example AT yahoo.com

If you're meeting someone to make a deal, make sure it's in a public place. Most people aren't comfortable with you coming to their house, so you can suggest a nearby gas station, grocery store, etc.

Any time you're buying/selling something that has an on/off switch (tv, polisher, car amplifier, etc) be sure to show the other person that it works.

:dblthumb2:

I've sold big and small stuff on Craigslist. No big problem.
I tried to hold off on giving to much personal info until a couple
of communications have occured. Must use common sense.

Just have to watch out for the Nigerian scam artists, especially
on big ticket items. Google Nigerian scam artists if not sure what
I'm talking about.

I haven't bought anything from the site yet.

Despite the negative publicity lately, I can assure you that I never had a problem. Let them meet you at your house in daylight. I have sold several bikes and never had an issue.

Great ide as it prevents spamming.

LOL, how about the people who ask you to hold that free item for them for a few weeks?

A couple years ago I put an old beat up home gym in the "free" section and within 2 minutes my phone was blowing up. I ended up having to take the ad down 10 minutes after originally posting it. :)

Funny you just posted this because my parents are trying to sell a computer desk which literally sat and was never used. Someone called about it and wanted to come look at it. Was on vacation at the time so couldn't work that out yet.

Just yesterday the person called again twice while no one was home. Finally we made arrangements for them to come today. Called and said they would be there in an hour. 2 hours pass and they called this person back and then they said they weren't interested!! And said they have been trying to call use back. Gotta call BS on that because our phone was working fine and the person called here three time before. Meanwhile they were sitting and waiting for people to show up. It's my first negative experience with Craigslist.

We've sold a couple sets of wheels and tires on Craig's list. Personally I would meet the buyer in a public place...

I sold my 1st item on Craigslist yesterday.

I listed some well used tires at 11:00am. They were sold by 6:00pm.

No problems here. After talking to the guy on he phone for awhile, I decided to have him meet me outside my garage with another family member present.

He showed up after a 1-1/2 hour drive, paid, talked cars for awhile and left.

I had originally planned to meet him elsewhere. After BSing on the phone he didn't seam to be a threat. He was a gear head like me!

Make sure they show you pics of the item. Many sellers idea about the "condition" of an item is much different than mine. I've seen items stated to be in "like new" condition that in my opinon were in "poor" condition.

I sold a car on Craiglist within 2 weeks of listing it. The second person who called came to the house, performed a test drive, and didn't even attempt to negotiate on the price.

Watch for spam!!! Other than that I buy and sell alot from there. My friend posted his alero for sale on there, 2 hours later he had cash in hand and the car was gone!

This thread reminded me I still have a set of wheels and tires in my garage...listed them a couple hours ago and got a response already.
