Cut My Prices for a Rare Vehicle?

If it was a Bugatti or something, sure, but an NSX...I know they are cool, but they aren't rare (at least not around here) and these days you can get them for less than $40k. When I first started I would cut prices to try and get "cool" cars, but in hindsight I wish I hadn't.

What I would do it approach him, but don't offer any special deals. Just tell him you really like his car, and you think your services could benefit it.

And would you consider a 1995 Ferrari 348 spyder something special? Causr i have found them for sale for around 40k. Which puts it in the same price range as this NSX. So with that being said to me it looks like the NSX has held its value more(considering what both cars ciat new) which means others think it is something special.

Having a nicely built portfolio of before and after photographs of the detailing projects I've done has enabled me to seal the deal on many more detailing projects, especially with the folks who have something really nice and might be a bit reluctant to allow just anyone to run a buffer on it.

Having said that....It's not hard at all to make a car look much better in photographs than in real life. A simple wash, clay and AIO polishing with a nice interior clean and dress can go a long way for the sake of taking stellar photographs. I'd get a 50/50 shot or two and a few before shots and after shots.

I would introduce myself to the owner of the NSX and be up front about my intent. Something like this...

"Hi my name is Kieran and I'm a local car detailer specializing in high quality detailing. I have an interest in shifting my target market toward higher end (more exotic) car detailing. I see your NSX often and I often think that it would fit well into my portfolio of before and after photographs."

Then give him your standard pricing. If he's reluctant to pay your standard rate, all that really says is that he may not be the perfect customer for your services, but...this isn't about him right? Isn't this about "you" getting the photos for your portfolio?

Just be honest with him and tell him it's about your portfolio and not so much about the money. He might tell you to have at it and give you access to the car to buff away and get your photos. As he might not be too concerned about having the car detailed, you might have to do it for free. After all..."you" are the one with the interest in his car and maybe he's not at all interested in your services.

If he does allow you to work on his car and you do excellent work to it, there's certainly a chance that he'll talk you up to the people he interacts with in life. This could be good word of mouth, which to me is worth some $$$ in the long run.

You forgot the part where i wrote NSX's aren't rare around here. I seriously see 5 a week. I don't see as many Ferrari's so I may have been more inclined to work harder to get the Ferrari for portfolio reasons. That said, these days I stay more than busy enough so I'm not doing discounted work for anyone. I'd rather be busy and pay my bills with BMWs, Mercedes, Acuras, GT-R's etc, than keep having to do work for cheap on Ferrari's, Lambos etc.

An NSX is something special. They are a beautiful car. Some NSX's, in good condition, are worth more now than when they were new.

Which of these three don't belong:

Red, rare, carport...catch my drift?

Back on topic.

I know that it doesn't make sense...but everyone doesn't have the luxury of storing their vehicle in a garage. That's not my concern.

What I am implying is that the vehicle paint system may not be in the best of shape..out doors, uncovered. Get my drift?

I completely understand Vegas transplant. If I do introduce myself and he's interested, I'd certainly look over the condition of the vehicle and make a determination as to whether it to my benefit or not.

Where I thought Vegas Transplant was going with this, is that if this guy has an "exotic" car, parks it under a carport, and doesn't even put a cover on it...then this doesn't seem to me like someone who cares enough about that car to pay for a high-end detail on it.

He may very well have that opinioun, but I don't know that unless I introduce myself and ask.

If I saw 5 different NSX randomly driving around all year, I'd be impressed.

I agree with this statement: I'd rather be busy and pay my bills with BMWs, Mercedes, Acuras, GT-R's etc, than keep having to do work for cheap on Ferrari's, Lambos etc.

I'm not looking to work on Ferrari's and Lambos, etc. for cheap, I'm looking for that FIRST car that falls into this class of vehicle. The first is always the hardest to get, but the opportunity can open up doors to other exotic car owners.

OK seen this thread is now talking more about Pictures on websites instead of about pricing here's my take.

First. I think that all photos on a website should be of your customers cars that you have permission to post. I see a lot of stock photos on peoples websites, I also see photos of cars parked on sales lots. I see photos of exotic cars that are clearly parked at the mall.

Second. Yes I guess it will help to show high end car owners that you have experience on that type of car. Not all owners give me permission to post their cars on my site or Facebook. That is fine by me because they usually give me a referral.

Third. I'm not sure why everyone gets so excited to work on one brand of car over another. I don't change my prices based on the brand of car. If you want to show you work on expensive vehicles start detailing Tiffin motorhomes.

@ OP: Whatever you decide to do, please inform us as I'm interested in the outcome :dblthumb2:

* That's for sure, been there, done that. I had to pm a mod to delete a photo after getting a lecture...a few months later he was happily taking pics for me to post on the forum. Go figure

Red X

* I agree... for me certain brands/vehicles open the door for upsells base on reaction of the prospect to my attempt at educating the prospect. I guess I'm a believer in the hard sell philosophy.

Just introduce yourself.

"Hi I am Kieran and I own KJW Detailing. I couldn't help but notice your beautiful car. Can you show it off to me?"

"have you ever thought about having it professionally detailed? Here are services I offer and what they can do to make this amazing vehicle of yours look even more brilliant....."

Smoooooooth.......:props:
