Cutting Power For Gel Coat

I have a craftsman 6" polisher that is rated at 4.5amp/1650 rpm. Will this be enough cutting power for the gel coat on a oxidized boat?

I can get a dewalt 12 amp 3500rpm from my dad, would this be better or overkill?

I use a big dewalt like the one your dad has, I run it on 1200-1400 with a wool pad and some M105 for heavy cutting
