D151 vs Meg 105

Damp pad and clean it often is paramount for success with 105. I wash out the pad in the sink and then spin it dry at 3000.

Ah ha, so you actually removed the pad and washed it? That's time consuming but i'm sure worth it. How long does it take you to do the whole car?

There's no easy answer for that as every vehicle is different. I usually spend in the neighbourhood of 8 hours compounding, polishing and sealing. The worse the paint, the longer the process. Even though it might seem like it's time consuming to remove the pad and go clean it and come back, I find that I work so much faster and more efficiently with a clean, damp pad. You could do 2 at once so you're not going to the sink as often too. I just do it with one.

I find that a dump pad causes (water) splatter (or fine mist) flying off the pad .. even if its 'dried' on max speed on rotary after wash.
It's very relative as to how to do the process correctly. You found your way of doing things richy ... lot of us are still experimenting & learning, before the right way was is discovered & acquired.

Now don't forget that I'm using a Dynabrade which is a torque monster so I can run that bad boy at 1000 rpm and get no splatter. I just increase pressure first if I need more correction.
