Finally got around to my first ever paint correction with a DA polisher. After lots of reading I decided to go with Meguiars DA microfiber system, and I'm glad I did. It was very easy to use and, wow, it just made those unsightly defects disappear. Almost completely! There are still some RIDS on the paint, but those I can feel with my fingernail, so I didn't expect to eliminate them. The results came out better than I had hoped. Here are some pics.

I don't have many before pics other than a few I took with my phone. Here is what I was working with.

Looks great. The Meguiar's DAMF system is a very good kit.
 
Thanks, Guz. I really was amazed at how easy the D300 it took out the defects. Not sure if the G35 (2006) has soft clearcoat or if the condition wasn't as bad as I thought. Who knows? All I know is that it only took 2 or 3 slow passes to get the results I wanted. Only issue I ran into was dusting. not sure how much dust is normal so I have nothing to compare it to, but I did get a little. When I did, I primed the pad again and it seemed to go away. I was probably not using enough or working little product for too long. Not sure.
 
yes, our nissans have soft paint! Now get a coating on her to toughen up the paint.

I did add some Optimum car wax today for good measure, but what type of coating you recommend?

No, sadly, it's an auto. BUT, I actually bought it for my daughter and she can't drive a manual, so, yeah.

I like 22ple, not sold here but a very good glass coating. Easy to use too.
 
Superior work on that delicate paintwork you really put the fire back into that red
 
Awesome work. I love the damf system and I would recommend it to any hobby detailer and pros also. But it's a great affordable way to do your own cars on minimal pads and minimal investment with amazing results.
 
Yep, the DAMF system is top notch to restore paint. Nice job on the car.
 
Great work!!! The Meguiar's MF system is truly an innovative product. Makes paint correction a lot easier.
 
I'm glad I went with this system because I can't imagine how long it would've taken otherwise. It took me 6.5 hours just to compound and polish. I washed and clayed the day before. It's a lot of work. You guys that do this for a living have my respect! I couldn't do it day and day out.

Thanks! I was looking at the results today in the sun and there definitely still some RIDS. However, considering how the sun shows EVERY defect, I am amazed at the drastic difference it made. Not a single swirl or spiderweb. I only did 3 passes slow with pressure, and a fourth pass a tad faster with lighter pressure. I bet it would've removed even more of the deeper RIDS had I worked each section more.

I now see the value in a swirl finder or other type of light so you can see your defect removal progress. I didn't need more than the 3 passes on most of the car, but had I been able to see the deeper rids, I would've spent more time on those sections. Lesson learned for next time.
 
Caution anyone on speeding up their passes with MF pads...they do not like it...DA haze will occur

If you are happy with most of the paint, but have RIDS that you still want to address, take a "Sniper" approach with a 3" DAMF cutting pad on a 2 7/8" backing plate, speed 4 with M100 or D300.

It will dramatically reduce the time spent
 
Surprisingly I got zero haze. I did get a little on my first or second panel but I'm certain that was my technique (failing to keep the pad flat, moving too fast). I went back over that section with D300 and the haze was gone. It finished down remarkably well on this paint. I think I could've went straight to an lsp, but I went ahead and used the finishing wax for good measure.
 
I've been using only LC foam pads on my Flex 3401. Ordered a two pack of LC microfiber 5 1/4" pads and tried them last night on a worn out 20 year old Buick,289,000 miles. The paint is in bad shape, never garaged, never waxed only automatic car washes.

The speed of the correction was a real surprise. Much faster than foam pads. Two slow passes Megs Ultimate Compound, two quick passes Ultimate Polish mixed 50/50 with Ultimate Wax. Tried a homemade approach to Meguiar's microfiber correction system. Used the speeds they recommend, in their video, on my Flex.

Will definitely be ordering more MF pads. I was blown away at the increase in the speed of the correction compared to foam. Be good for daily drivers.

Someone please tell my how to post a full size picture. I've tried everything, resize using MS Office, change to jpeg but haven't been able to post a bigger picture. Everything I post comes out as a thumbnail. If your not logged in you can't see the picture. Thanks in advance.
 
OT for Gary: the easiest way is to upload pictures to an offsite photo handler such as Picasaweb, Flickr or Photobucket then use their linking facility with the BB

Looking good there! I've only used mf pads, so I can't compare to foam pads, but I did find the "system" incredibly easy to use.

Not sure about the pics. I use the "tinypic" plugin from another forum I'm a member of, so not sure how else to do it.
 
Great work. Megs MF pads a are great on OEM finishes. I have yet to have a repainted car to try them on.
