I am looking at getting a DA polisher. I stay in India where the voltage is 220V, so the unit has to be a 220-240v unit. Yes, I understand that I can use a step down transformer with a 110v unit, but I would prefer a unit with the correct voltage. I can source from Singapore.

I wrote to Autobacs in Singapore and they responded saying that Megs has stopped making the G220. I the wrote to Meguiars and received two replies. One person responded saying that the G220v2 has not been released yet. The other said that the unit has started shipping from mid june and its only days before it becomes available !!

I would love to get the G220v2. Mike - saw a few posts from you on megs online - would really appreciate if you can clear this up for me. If and when the G220v2 is coming.

Any other recommendations will be helpful. Would love to hear from forum members from Singapore - what they are using and where to get a DA polisher unit.

Mike,

OUCH ! The price.

Would you say that it is OK for a week end detailer to go for the G220. Or should I wait for the G220v2 when it comes.

In India we do not get most of these machines so I really cannot "check" them out. I am however heading for Singapore next month and may pick up the G220 at Hypercoat - the megs dealer there. SGD 300.

Now what is the relationship between the backing plate and the pad sizes. The G220 comes with W67DA backing plate. What is the best pad size for it? Read somewhere 5.5" pads are best for the G220. Is this the correct backing plate? Can these backing plates be changed?

Then the pads, I have looked at the kits on sale to figure out a complimentary set of pads. I am currently using Wolfgang Paint Restorer, Deep Gloss Sealant and Collinite 845. I guess I will need polishing and finishing pads. How many each at the minimum for one detailing adventure ?

If this works out then may be I can inaugurate the Unit with the Pinnacle Signature II I recently got from Autogeek !!

Thanks

Sid

You could buy a DAS-6 from Australia as we have the same 240V as you guys.

I had a look at the DAS 6 and the DAS6 Pro on the net. Nice price point. But could not find out if they are available in Singapore.

Just spoke with Mike Pennington at Meguiar's and here's the skinny...

The G220 is being phased out and the G220v2 is still slated to be introduced sometime in the future.

Mike didn't go into details as to any scheduled time of release because that kind of information is private until it's ready to be made public.

Hope this helps you in your decision making process as you move forward.
