DA polisher question

There are plenty of threads here about it. What I remember when I researched it was it is a fine machine. A new backing plate and quality pads like lake county ones are a must. Many here like it better after you upgrade it than the PC.

The same exact DA polisher from Harbor Freight?

I'm getting one(HF) as a second DA to use with 3" pads so I don't have to hassle changing out the BP.

I use a PC 7424XP and no problem, I been wanting to upgrade to a Rupees thou

Its a great machine for the price. Only upgrades that would be needed would be a 5" backing plate for use with 5.5" pads and also a 3" backing plate if you would like to use smaller pads. Theres a thread somewhere on this forum that recommend changing the grease out so that it can run quieter.

Where would I get the backing plate? And what kind of pads would I need to wax and everything?

Be sure to use a 20% off coupon, they are everywhere.

I have this and a PC7424 and the Harbor Freight one is more powerful. Build quality is excellent. Only knock on it is the location and quality of off/on switch.

I bought the Harbor Freight rotary buffer for, I want to say $25. I got opinions on it from others and while most of them said it wouldn't hold up to a life in a body shop, it would be perfect for a low-volume detailer. Who did his car and maybe family & friend's cars.

I've had it for a few years now and no complaints.

You can't buy anything directly from a stored anymore can you? Everything y'all talk about you have to buy from here pay extra money for shipping then wait around a week to get it.

Detailing is too niche to have stores nationwide. There are a few retailers but very few and in between. Just wait for a sale if shipping cost is a no go. There are also multiple coupons online.

Do you have an 'auto paint store' locally? If so, check them out. You may very well see that 'their prices' are quite high when compared what you will pay here, including shipping.

Just my 2¢...

Well by the time I buy the backing plate replace the grease and everything wouldn't I be better just to buy a better machine to begin with? Basically be the same amount after it's all said and done.

No, you'll only need to buy the 5" bp if you need to do some serious correcting on the whole car. From what you mentioned about the car, you don't seem to need this. It comes with a 6" bp, and that's sufficient to clean-up the paint, especially with orange and blue pads. You'll be buffing in no time with that. Just make sure you have an extension cord ready.

You can get work done the way the HF da is. I have one the backing plate is a little big yes, which causes the HF pads to start to shred a little after using them for a little bit. You can cut the HF backing plate to lessen the diameter, it is pretty hard material. Smaller backing plates can be ordered from many places, even auto parts stores may have them, may not have them in stock but could get it for you later that day or the next day from their warehouse,

You don't have to change the grease out, the DA is fine, you won't be running it for 7 hours a day trying to make a paycheck out of it. My suggestion is to buy it with a few of each HF pad that you think you might need and go to work with it. Like I a said after using it for a while the pads might start to throw foam from the backing plate being larger than the pad back Velcro. But then again you might be using a polish or compound that is very dusty anyways

its a very good machine. I have that and their 2" DA pneumatic sander. Both are very inexpensive and have similar performance to the high quality DA's sold on Autogeek.

I typically have doubts on the durability of most any power tool sold by harbor freight but you can get the warranty and still spend less than the high quality machines sold.

Well I had a friend send me the polisher and a couple sets of pads but I've never used a da polisher before. Anyone give me any advice?
