DA Polisher: Stick Handle - Hoop Handle - Or no handle at all?

I've used my Porter Cable 7424XP only one day but with the handle. I find the handle to be 'OK'. I'll try it without the handle but can see a problem.

When laying it down between tasks, without something to prevent it from flopping over, it'll - flop over. So some thought needs to go into that. While I was typing I think I have an answer. I'll try to fabricate a wire frame 'stand' which will cradle the base and allow the pad to lay facing down, but NOT touch anything.

I'm sure others have methods of keeping the pad grit free between tasks when polishing and buffing. Perhaps they can share them. (that is unless I missed the memo and didn't see those ideas in other replies) :)

1. Always use a clean place to lay it down, so that if it does fall over, it isn't a problem.
2. The PC will actually lay on it's back just fine without the handle. Just balance it when you lay it down. Mine very rarely falls over.

I just make do with what's around me, anything make-shift that works to keep an edge of the pad from touching anything. In a perfect world you have a clean cart or table you can set things on, just be sure to wipe all surfaces clean before hand and periodically throughout the process if needed.

Well, for me, having a busted finger, I must have a handle to assist in controlling the Flex. People might think "Nah, there is nothing wrong with it.", they just will probably never know until something major happens to them.

Did this Dec 27th,2008 , with all the rehab/therapy I have about 90% of Full use out of it , can't bend hand back as far as the left hand and now early Arthritic conditions in the middle and ring fingers
 
Welcome to autogeek. I can honestly imagine the pain just by looking at the picture. Hope you're doing well.
 
No handle on either my Griot's or my Rotary. Both machines are easier to control for me without the handle and also, the handle gets in the way of closer spots.
 
No handle on my XP. It's easier to apply even pressure with your hand on top of the head, and using the handle transfers too much vibration to your shoulders, gets annoying after a while.
 
I want to use the PC handle, I want to like the PC handle, but I can never get comfortable with it. I really wish there were some other way to hold the PC when doing vertical panels because I think it would make it easier to control pressure (I have a problem with that on side panels), require less hand strength, and therefore be less fatiguing over time. I actually think the PC with a hoop handle would be ideal. Maybe I'll have to make one some day.
 
No handle on the PC. I have extremely tiny hands so the base of the PC is the perfect size for me to control comfortably without the handle. The little divot in the side where the handle screws into makes a great resting spot for my thumb, allowing for even better control of the machine.

I can tell it's the same car by looking at the license plate, the camera settings must have been different for the two different pictures

I prefer no handle
