Well some of my last posts discussed trying to find a used car as a daily driver for work purposes. Car will be sitting outside 24/7 and gone in two years or less. I decided to buy used and having been searching for a GM product with nice warranty and buying cash so it has to be the deal of the century.

I picked the 07 Saturn Aura XR do to its options, pricing, and value. This car is black, has every option including sunroof and was a steal from a dealer upstate that needed to move it as they primarily sold BMW's.

Needless to say when we got up there the car initially looked ok. Upon inspection it was noted the billet grill (not standard) was discolored, and while car was serviced well and with no real major repairs, it was clearly a car wash queen only and outside all the time. It had marring so bad on the rear I almost walked away. My wife then reminded me that with a little TLC it could look alot better and dealer tossed in a last minute discount to avoid loss of sale making deal to good to pass up.

So let the dealing begin (and yes I failed to take initial pics). Here was the process:

Wheel Cleaning -- Griots Wheel Cleaner, EZ Detail Brush
Washing -- Optimum Car Wash
Claying --- Wolfgang Clay and Lube
Polishing -- Megs 105 / Menzerna 106FA
Protecting -- Four Star UPP (2 coats) and Four Star Spray Wax
Wheels -- FK425 (wheels) ---Surf City Beyond Black (tires)
Exhaust --- Mothers PowerAluminum/ Quad 0 Stainless Steel
Glass --- DP Glass Restorer / Aquapel
Grill --- Stainless Steel Wool and Billet Polish from Mothers

I went thru multiple pads, actually destroyed backing plate on PC, and found side by side all three of us prefer the look of Menzerna Polish to Megs 105 final gloss wise. While 105 certainly had more bite and helped with marring, it was the not finish down quality. I think the difference is note worthy and the pop up tent was a life saver with over 6 hours into the project. Unfortunately it poured and poured all afternoon and evening so pics came next morning.

Nice! Sounds like you like black for a daily driver. Hey, Scott, this car is missing one thing - HID Xenon projector headlights, and I know that you have them on your other cars...Isn't it kinda hard to get used to this "candle light"?

Killr actually cleaned another car besides his vette! Blasphemy!

:iagree: I was surprised to see a show and shine from you Scott but floored when I did not see the vette! Nice work, bet that car gets fantastic MPG! :xyxthumbs:

Nice job on it.
How do you like the way it drives/handles.

I am not use to front drivers anymore ... it has the 3.6 Liter VVT motor and 6 speed auto with paddle shifters which are a bit videogame-ish. I like the look of the 18's stock and feel they put together a nice upgrade to a Malibu LTZ. It does come with stabilitrak and airbags this and that for safety and heard it rated well in crash impacts.

Kids love it for the second radio controls in backseat and the wireless headsets so they can choose their own music.

:dblthumb2: Nice work! I think you will be very happy with Saturn. I have 3 saturns. The 1st 2 are 1997 and 1999 SL.(nothing special I know) we bought with a lot of miles on them and we have put a lot more on them. Never a problem! Of course my first new car was the 2008 Sky and I expect the same kind of quality from this beauty! So far it's true love!

Hey, Killr, it's about time that we saw the Aura "cleaned" up. ;) And, how did the prior owner happen on that billet grill?..............when you sent me the PM & pics, I said to myself that the grill wasn't something that came on a stock 2007 Aura.

You'll like it.....actually, better than the new Mailbu. If not for anything else but the front driver seat belt positioner being located in the RIGHT position, unlike the Chevy (which ruins the Malibu purchase prospects for me).

BTW, unless it's the deal of a life time...........I'm NOT buying a BLACK car. I'll stick with something low profile, like red or yellow! :)

Speaking of red.......did you see that the yahoo's at Chevrolet are bring back "Torch Red" for the Corvette in 2010. Can you say ...........ECK!!

I see nothing wrong with a red corvette.

Me neither!! :)

I have had only bright red & bright yellow Corvettes. The two cars I own now are.......see below.

The bad news is - Chevrolet is bringing back "Torch Red" (a tomato-y kind of red with an orangy look in the sun/yellow in it.............and apparently stopping their current red (which is more cherry/more blue in it).

Torch Red on Torch Red was one of the worst combinations ever. I waited and waited for them to switch to a better red.........and bought yellow after yellow 'vettes. Now that I want a C6 Grand Sport/Z51, they're bringing back the "tomato" ! Eck.............. :(

Guess I'll have to stick with yellow.

That's just my opinion...........................I could be wrong (but not if you've seen it in person).
