Damaged Dash: Looking for advice

This post makes me cringe. >{

...

Hope you get your car fixed to your satisfaction, Chris.

Thank you! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that cares about the details. My only regret is NOT hovering over him the entire time.

Safelight auto glass is who should perform any glass work,they hold a big market share installing glass.Good luck with the out come and check for leaks.

I disagree.

We've had Safelite windshields put in. Their glass may meet government specs, but it's inferior. They have large market share because they charge half the price of most other places. The place we used also has a very high rating and has done good work for us in the past. Any place can send out a careless clown, including Safelite.

If that mark is permanent I'd avoid removing the dash for a new replacement at all costs. You have to remove quite a few things to have access to the dash. In the end would you rather live with a stain that can be disguised by cleaning and/or those upholstery dyes or a brand new dash that you had to remove a gazillion parts to replace.

Below is an exploded view of the main dash assembly, not including the gauge cluster, steering assembly, infotainment controls and display screen, climate controls, glove box, shifter assembly, and center console that will ALL have to be removed. The front seats will likely also have to be removed to prevent additional damage. The cost of a new dash, as expensive as it is, is a fraction of the labor that will be required.

I'm well aware of the work required to switch out a dash all for a few scratches. This is not atypical for most modern vehicles, so the installer should also have been aware and taken more precaution against damage.

However, I have yet to talk to one person who has been able to describe to me in detail how they would go about "repairing" the damage. It's been 5 days since the damage and all we have is, "we use a guy." So replacement is still on the table as far as I'm concerned.
