Dawn power dissolver don't use it!

I still offer that Dawn products are best left in the kitchen period ! More than one way to clean effectively, no matter it be wax removal from paint or polish removal from pads.

Thanks for testing and sharing this info. I have used DPD in the past, but no more. Even though your test was overkill, I do not wish to shorten the lifespan of my pads.

I don't agree with this at all. I've been using DPD for years to clean my pads and I have never had a pad's life get cut short. I feel that as long as you use the product properly (yes I know it's not made for pads so it's not proper to use it but I mean don't over use it) that it will be fine. There are plenty of products that detailers use all the time that could cause damage if left on paint for 10 hours, but we use them as intended with good results. I feel this post is very misleading.

Nobody is trying to mislead anybody here.... We are just sharing our experiences. If it works for you... GO FOR IT! :xyxthumbs:

It's misleading to say not to use a product because it can cause damage when the "test" was a blatant abuse of the product. Thats all.

My use was not a "blatant abuse of the product" and I still had issues

I have since switched to Megs Super Degreaser and could not be happier:dblthumb2:

Wouldn't any use of this product as a pad cleaner be a blatant abuse of the product being as it is not a pad cleaner and is not designed as one?
I can't find anywhere on the label where it says safe for foam rubber, and there is no directions on the label or their web site for the "proper" use of it as a pad cleaner....Maybe you can forward me Dawns "intended" use & directions for pad cleaning.
If you want to use it, good for you. It was reported to me this stuff contains oven cleaner that my damage foam so I did a test and posted my results....Read them and come to your own decision. The label does say "not intended for use on dishwasher doors", most dishwasher doors are made of plastic...Maybe a clue?
I don't hold anyone responsible for damage to my pads from this stuff other than myself. I also have NOT had any problem from using it on my pads for short periods...That being said, If I find my pads begin to crumble I will know why, if not Yippee! I feel I dodged a bullet.
I feel good about reporting this and everyone can come to their own concusion...Mine is to not use it any longer on my pads. There is nothing misleading about this, I clearly posted how I did it and for how long. I have nothing to gain if people use it or not so what motive would I have to mislead? Use it or Don't, I DON'T CARE! :props:

I can't find anywhere on an alcohol bottle that says it is safe for paint. If you use IPA maybe you can direct me to a label that says its safe for auto paint. Not trying to flame you, but you get the idea. BTW if your title said use Dawn PD with care that is one thing, but you said not to use it and posted pictures where it destroyed the pads. I've been using it for years and know for a fact that if you let it soak for a few hours or less it will not destroy the foam. I have maybe 5 different brands of pads knowing that there are only a few manuf. of foam.

Ouch. Hard to argue with you sir, very good point!

Show me a test where IPA did damage to auto paint. Not trying to flame you or anyone else either.

I have sent an email off to Procter & Gamble (makers of Dawn) to see if they think there is any problem using this stuff on foam for short periods of time and rinsing clean. I will post their reply (if they don't think I'm nuts and do reply). I liked the way this cleaned my pads but I personally believe that exposing foam to this stuff "for a few hours" is damaging the foam. My test was for 10 hours and the softer foam on the HDGS had much more damage than the ccs pad. If they say it should be OK, I will be the first to admit it and be back using it because it does clean them up really well......:dblthumb2:

You missed the whole point. Read it again. The point is that it will not harm your paint, but it doesn't say that on the label nor does it say its safe for auto paint. But you and I know that its safe.

This is my last little bit of input to this thread... But I believe Mike Philips made a comment about how isopropyl alcohol had actually caused some blemishes in the paint he was working on. Isopropyl alcohol IS a solvent and CAN actually soften paint. However little it does soften paint, it still does. Will it on every job, nope. Do I use it. Yup.

I think this thread is getting a little out of hand. There's no way one single person can have experienced all the side effects of every chemical or concoction we use on a daily basis. I believe the OP was just stating his opinion and his experiences with this particular product.

I have never had any problems with it but then again I don't leave it on overnight. I spray it on, work it in and rinse it out.
