Argh, parents friends just got suckered into buying the Auto Armor protection from the dealer on two cars.

& you listen to them ( Car buyers ) & they all seem to think they got the thing & you don t know #### .

I used to apply this to new vehicles. What a waste of money. The salesmen told customers it took 4 hours to apply so they would'nt feel like they got TOTALLY ripped off.

Two people I know just got the paint protection on their vehicles. One Audi, one Honda.

At least the Honda guy said since he got the extended warranty he got a voucher for more than the cost of the paint protection.

I just nodded and said "oh, hmmm"

In case anyone like me didn't know what's going on:

Both the Honda and Kia dealerships I work at (both are under the same company) sell this Auto Armor stuff. Having applied this stuff, I can say that it is garbage. Actually, the stuff we apply is not a wax-like product like this guy is using - it is actually a liquid that goes into a foam gun and gets foamed over the entire exterior of the car. Doesn't last but maybe a month, month and a half. I'm pretty sure I've seen this guy - I think he was one of the reps who came to the Kia dealership to demo this stuff.

Wow.

TIL: acid rain is literally battery acid, an SOS pad will remove all your clear coat in one wipe, anything with 'abrasions' will damage clear coat, brake dust literally dissolves clear coat due to heat, dark color cars typically look worse than lighter color vehicles because they are hotter and therefor more susceptible to heat induced damage, clear coat paint is similar to Mop & Glow, OTC interior dressings dry out interior surfaces; if you "seal" leather it will be ruined.

I will conclude with this:

Just like AutoButler. Any car I've seen done with it, the wax or whatever lsp they supposively use lasts about 2 weeks and I find it all over door jams and what not

Makes me mad when I see BS like this

True mate , but people love to get bullshited , I mean some believe in stuff like that , the dealer said it , it s good for me , the thing s that they get ripped off big time & that the one that knows are dumbasses & know nothing , it sux big time .

My in-laws got the same dupe job on their 2013 black es 350. To compound the waste of money, My mother in law insists upon running her car through a wash with the slapping spinning brushes and says "they told me it won't scratch." needless to say, they scratch, and a six month old car looks like s***, but they don't see it or seem to care so I won't put in the necessary effort to restore just to have to do it yearly. Maybe lexus has a coating for that...

If the dealers want to sell something why don't they just sell OptiCoat or Optiguard--at least for $800 the customer would get a worthwhile product applied to the car.

Because that's too much work to apply. And, if applied wrong the customer could notice. They want quick, fast, high mark-up. OC requires a level of professionalism to apply most dealers just don't have.

I remember the dealer I worked at many years ago. The "pre-delivery" cleanup was done by "detailers" who were drunk a lot of the times. Most of the guys working in that department were fresh out of jail on parole. You couldn't send them a car too late, because they all had to get home by a certain time in case their "P.O." (parole officer) came around checking on them. One guy was "slow", his I.Q. I'm guessing was 65 or so.

People barely even wash their cars where I live, no less worry about "paint protection". That's one of those rip off items they suck you into in the finance office.

A lot of times the "paint protection" is just part of the pre-delivery clean up, and is applied as a routine to every car if you pay for it or not. So, everyone gets it regardless.

There's no 100% markup on opti guard...
