dealership deluxe detail is this a good deal?

Did I miss that part? When did they say something about lacquer thinner?

At the 1:00 mark: "Then we'll go on to wiping down the Laquer Thinner and just gettin' all that excess little dirt that we didn't get when we washed it."

Well, I guess that could be considered a tar removal step. Fortunately I live too far away to be tempted to take my car there for $99. Maybe if it was $89...

Having worked in the detail department at a dealership I can assure you that video is 100% real. I worked at a BMW dealership and they actually ran every damned car through an automated brush car wash, used trashed old MF rags, pressure washed the bejesus out of everything, used highly acidic wheel cleaner, sprayed everything with full strength APC. Horror show.

The car could really use a clay and wax though.
I could do any of these myself except for

the shampoo carpet I don't have the
machine extract and leave the stripes.
IMHO:
You'd be taking one helluva chance by letting the
Dealership "detail" your vehicle, just so you could
have some (whoopie-do) stripes left in its carpet!!

But $99 is attracting me for the time
I would have to spend.
Gotta keep in mind all of the hours it will take
to (hopefully) undo all the damages from:
What The Dealership Hath Wrought!

OK, you guys have me convinced, no matter if the video is real or not.
I thought they hire someone mobile to the parking lot to do this. It was because I found a groupon kind of thing for the clay and wax for about $65 + $20 on large vehicles, that's why I thought $99 is a good deal at the dealership.
I have practically no time due to family commitments and the lack of cleaniness has been slowly messing up my vehicles. I have just been washing the cars and wheels and that has been it.

So they do this to some extends to new vehicles also? I know they run it through the wash and there is the guy with paper towel standing by, then they put on a glaze that disappear in a couple of washes and you see the swirls later.

On a side note, I think the lacquer thinner is part of the joke, if it was real lacquer thinner it would strip the paint. Although I am sure you guys have seen cars that you wish you could just wash down the interior like that?

But now I would gladly decline the wash at the dealership next time I have work done.

See.... you DO learn some-tin' hanging 'round dis hea' parts!

RE the lacquer thinner.... I'd think they actually DO use it. It'd be a GREAT stripper of old wax! And for a quick wipe, shouldn't hurt the paint (as in dissolve it), but it WILL end up (considering their choice of wiping towel(s)) scratching the living snot out of your paint!

I hear ya' on not having time to do it yourself, as millions don't. But I'd try to see if you can either find a AG follower in your area, or look for a local REAL detailer.

My Leg & Foot doc sent me his wife's big Lexus SUV a couple years ago. Literally couldn't BELIEVE that someone could trash a $70,000 vehicle like that! My wife and I spent SEVEN HOURS just on the interior. (a little over 14 man hours)

The interior was/is light beige and it looked like the kids had been given cans of cola that was shook up, then told to pull the tops off! I mean there were black spots all over the freaking headliner! Between the seats, (and on them) it was insane, insane I tell ya'.

Spent most of the time on the interior, then did a VERY QUICK Megs 151 over the paint. Of course it is a black vehicle, and needed a LOT more than we did, but the budget was what it was. At the end of the day I charged him $250 for the interior and wash, and got several more $50 laser treatments on my foot for free (for doing the 151 buff). ;)

"Make sure it's all good..." Holy Christ. I think he believes it.

I read the entire thread before watching the video and I really thought some of you had to be exaggerating. I know we can be pretty picky about how are cars are handled so I just figured you all we just picking apart "normal" production detailing but that was on another level. Literally anyone with no car knowledge at all would know at least some of the video is just crazy.

Still hoping it is a joke.

Well I just went and do it myself. I don't know why it took so long, but it did in 4hours was only able to get it washed, clayed and waxed, washed the wheels as well with a mit, I also put trim sealant on all the black plastic, cowl, running boards. I didn't get time to clay the front bumper and lower mouldings and running boards.

I really want use 1 or 2 grade of polish to buff out the light scratches on the clear coat but I don't think I can find a day with the time

If I'm ever pissed off, I'm just gonna call then and make fun of them. That'll make my day for sure.

Scary thing is, it's NOT a joke.

That was an actual ad for 'them'. Friend of ours (who live in Lynnwood, WA-where Harris is located) send me a link to this a few years back.

Unfortunately it does take some time. On the other hand, you don't need to redo all those steps (except for the wash and the wax and claying the parts you haven't done yet) to complete the polishing.

You can also just polish a section at a time, like one day do the roof, trunk, and hood, another day do the left side, another day do the right side. Or break it into smaller sections.
