Aftermarket dealership SYN-TECH paint protection: Has anyone here had this done to their car? I did not agree with getting it at the time but the wife insisted and it was her car anyways. The product was applied at the time of purchase (September 2013). The dealership said it was applied with a buffer. Is there any issues with me doing a detail on the car seeing as this product has already been applied. Any possible adverse effects? Personally I don't think it was worth the money - but that is just my opinion.
What products would you recommend for paint protection ? I plan to detail my 2012 Altima and I declined the aftermarket paint protection from the dealership at the time.
Thanks in advance to all forum members - your comments are greatly appreciated !

I'm not familiar with that product, but most of the dealer products are not any different/better than a good sealant that you would get here. Most of them have some fine print that basically invalidates any warranty claim you might have (like you have to bring it back for "inspection" every six months, or you have to promptly clean off any environmental contamination, etc.)

We have some members who work at dealers and may be able to give you insight into this particular product.

True. This product requires an inspection from the dealership every two years. (just found out that today !)

Hoping to purchase and apply a quality paint protection / sealant on my car soon. Leaning towards the Wolfgang line ...

All the products today are great, hard to go wrong with any of them. You just missed a great sale on Wolfgang over the weekend at the Wolfgang site.

I tried to google search and came up with 2 things for SYN-TECH, one was just a company in Hong Kong that sold it in 5 gal buckets(no product info) and the other linked to PPS. It is nothing special, you can get the same thing(or better) applied much cheaper from a reputable detailer or take a pick from the DIY options here. The dealer options are a scam to get more money from you. You will pay more for list price with the interest if it is rolled in the loan.

I have always used Meguiar's products because they are easy to obtain, but take your pick, there are a lot of good ones. Before you lay down any wax or sealant though, you will probably have to decontaminate the paint. Get a bottle of Iron-X and a Nanoskin sponge, mitt, or towel.

not to be mean, but your wife needs to learn that the dealership tries to make money on things things that can usually be found at other places for hundreds less and is the exact same product. It never costs what your wife paid (im assuming 1000 dollars) to even purchase a product like that

HA !!! I tried to warn her - but my words fell on deaf ears. OH...and the cost was for undercoating and paint protection ($750). Funny thing is that she was not happy with the "interior detail" the dealership did either. I believe at this point she has learned her lesson. On the bright side of things, it sure gives me a few more reasons to purchase .... ummmm .... a couple of required products from AG.... in order to keep the vehicles in tip top shape with little to no justification on why there is a 3rd incoming package from AG in as many weeks.

Sounds good to me. Now she will appreciate your work and the need for the packages as it will benefit her.
