I dedicate some MF towels to claying and i do not use them to rub off polishes or LSP's. For me, there is a chance they will pick up some claying "stubble" as i call it left in the lube i wipe off. I will say i play it safe and clean my towels (all towels) before is use them again. By that i mean after a good wash i inspect every square inch and remove anything imbedded.
Having said that you could assume i shouldn't have anything to scratch paint from even my claying MF's but i keep it as safe as possible by using only certain towels for wiping off clay residue and lube.
