Deep scratch repair

I removed the tape soon after spraying the final coat of clear. Took the car in the sun and let it sit there for an hour and then wet sanded and polished.

thanks for posting this. my aunt has a black car that has seen many handlebars from kids bikes. i have already tried buffing them out but they are still there. when i get the time i will be borrowing your process to make the scratches diappear. will post before and afters when i do this

Here's what happened:
Arriving at home I got the mail and pulled into the garage. Still in the car, finishing a cigarette and reading the new Maxim, I closed the garage door. Much to my surprise my car began to shake and I immediately knew this was going to be bad. The metal handle of the garage door hit the rear bumper tearing through clear, color and primer with ease, deeply gouging the plastic.

After a bit of touch up and sanding I could no longer stand being without a camera and went to look for an old point and shoot icture:YES!
I wish I had before pics to show the extent of the damage, think deep ragged scrapes in painted plastic with frayed edges covered in a mans tears.

Basically did the same process as the scratch, just on a much larger scale.

Not too bad, still a little more orange peel to sand though. Without the halogens on you can't see any damage, so I'm anxious to see what it looks like in the sun, we'll see. Probably should have waited for the Lanka blob remover I am about to order to do this project.

Instead of filling with paint, first fill with scratch/chip putty.

You fill the scratch or chip, dry it with a hair dryer, then sand it flat with 2000 grit. Polish out your sanding scratches, then go to paint: you have a totally flat surface.
