I do a few things to minimize any swirls or marring. Mine is an indoor only cover. I also only use it when storing the car for any length of time. Daily use would surely mark up the paint.Matt, Car Covers = bad news for your paint lol.
1. Always apply to clean paint only. I quick detail all the dust off the car prior to applying cover.
2. Always clean the outside of the cover before removing. It keeps dirt and dust from getting on the inside of the cover as you roll it up. I use a california duster that is dedicated to the cover only.
3. I start at the mirrors and use them as anchors. Then I unroll toward the front and then toward the back. Removal is obviously the reverse. This keeps the cover from sliding across the paint. It actually makes it much easier to put on. I also marked the inside of my cover with arrows to tell me which way is the front, driver side, etc.
4. Obviously never set the cover down on anything dirty. I have a dedicated bag for the cover. If the cover is not on the car, it is on that bag.
