As came up in the unpacking thread, TRC stopped in the Detail Guardz SEMA booth and it was pretty interesting. I guess I had seen this product before but hadn't really paid attention. This product is like a Grit Guard, but for lack of a better word has "counter-flow" technology, which means the "grit" will go down through the guard, but doesn't want to come back the other way.

They had a demo with their product vs. a Grit Guard in separate buckets with a wash mitt being agitated up and down, showing that the red test particles stayed under the guard with the Detail Guardz, but were swept right back up through the Grit Guard. I honestly couldn't really see that in the video, and I don't know how their red test particles compare to real-world dirt, but it was interesting.

They also have a Scrub Wall, which is their take on the "washboard", which is up against the side of the bucket vertically, and can be I guess set up in 90° increments, it's sold as 180 or 360, and similarly claims to trap debris outside of it at the perimeter of the bucket.

Another product is a spring-loaded pumping attachment that attaches to the Detail Guardz for pad washing. Silly Rabbit mentioned he has this and uses to clean pads, with the benefit of not having to use a polisher to do the cleaning, and potentially exposing your polisher to water. The downside would be not spin-drying the pad.

Anyone else have experience with these products? They are more expensive than the Grit Guard equivalents.

I guess I wasn't using the proper terminology:

Dirt Lock Bucket Insert--$20
Scrub Wall--seems to have a crazy list price but is going on Amazon for $17 for the 180°
Pad Washer Kit--$50, but it's on sale some places and it looks like you can bundle it with the Dirt Lock and save $5, it includes a plunger thingy

I have Detail Guardz in my wash and rinse buckets as well as their Scrub and Pump Attachment in the rinse bucket. Compared to the standard style and the ill filling Chemical Guys guards they at least fit in my buckets much better. I don't know if they technically work and better since my buckets are opaque white and filled with soapy water I can't see through. I supposed I could notice when I'm doing a rinseless wash, but I honestly haven't paid attention since my sponge comes out clean after rinsing it in the solution.

I do like the Scrub and Pump Attachment since it seems to better flush out my wash media versus just agitating it against the grit guard.

The Scub Wall attachment has looked appealing but I've never gotten around to buying one.

Oh, that's interesting, now I understand why they sell that separately without the plunger thing with the velcro for gripping pads.

I also have the Detail Guardz grit guard and the 180 degree scrub wall. I watched a video a while back where they demonstrated, via clear buckets, how the Detail Guardz grit guard performed much better than a standard grit guard. With the standard grit guard any cleaning of a sponge or mitt gets any dirt on the bottom of the bucket very much recirculated above the standard grit guard. The design of the Detail Guardz prevents this.
As far as the scrub wall I didn't like reaching to the bottom of the bucket to clean my sponge/mitt on the grit guard as it defeated the purpose of wearing gloves.
Not familiar with their pump. But I find machine pads quite easy to clean by hand in a bucket with a couple inches of rinseless wash in the bucket.

I have been using the Grit Guard washboard since it came out, I have to believe that using that, and not plunging the wash media to the bottom of the bucket (to the horizontal part of the Grit Guard), stirs up the stuff from under the Grit Guard less. I just ordered a Mitt Slide last week (taking advantage of a SEMA sale), before I watched the TRC video in the Detail Guardz booth, otherwise I'd be more amped up to try them.

I was looking at this again, and the "Scrub and Pump" attachment looks different than the pad washer attachment.

I’ve got a few of ‘em, not sure where they came from. I think the best part is the feet w rubber pads that cling to bucket nicely so they don’t come tumbling out as much when you dump bucket.

A bit more substantial/heavy duty as opposed to grit guard. Dunno if they do a better job than a grit guard or if worth the up-charge vs Grit Guard but nice nonetheless.

If it works the way it's supposed to if you dump the water with the thing still in there the dirt won't come out, counter-flow and all (can't find the shrug emoticon). I always take the grit guard out to clean the bottom of the bucket.

I have not bought one myself but recall reading there was the original one and a *V2*. The original one did not stay on the bucket bottom and floated up....if I recall. V2 corrected that. That was a looong time ago and maybe that has been addressed, but for anyone who buys one, be mindful of this.

Was using the GG, but have been using the CG variant. Works good enough for me.....aka, I can pour the bucket out, leave like 1 gallon remains, lift the insert and plenty of debris below the insert. The CG's are a pretty tight git. I use a zip tie through the holes and make a -loop- to pull it out from the bottom.

That was my experience with these things. For the price premium, I was extremely annoyed at this.

Mine were the originals, they kept floating to the top of the bucket no matter what I did. Extremely frustrating, I threw them in the back of the cabinet and bought some standard Grit Guards.

Now, these have since been redesigned, the original foam pads have been replaced by a rubber griper pad (bottom pic). But of course, those new rubber grips are not retrofittable to the old versions. They can keep them as far as I'm concerned.

I must have the V2 grit guardz as mine have the rubber and stick to the bottom of the bucket quite well. In addition the scrub wall locks into the grit guardz which makes the whole thing easier to remove from the bucket when desired.
If I had the V1 and it doesn't stay stuck to the bottom of the bucket think I would try to modify the feet by drilling a piece of rubber and attaching it with some small stainless (countersunk)machine screws and nuts. What does one have to lose by trying this?

Grips can retro fit. In website they say will fit any generations of dirtlocks. $3.99 for four

I’ve used since V1 I did not have issues with v1 floating in my Adam’s buckets. I have since ordered replacements for my gritgaurds in v2 the are more snug.

Water stays cleaner and I like the quality of them.

I use scrub wall for when I 2 bucket wheels. I don’t like how dirty wheel bucket gets and rinsing them all the time is a pain. Gets my wheel MF and woolies clean.

Ordered one for rinseless bucket but forgot about it and now ordered the curve LS bucket gaurd that’s been popping up.

If you’re thinking of upgrading from grit gaurds to dirtlocks I personally think it’s worth it.

looks like i have the v1. never had a problem with it coming up but i also have the scrub wall now which probably helps keep everything in place.

I didn't realize so many of you were using these. I think the first time I saw it, I dismissed it because it seemed gimmicky.

The local retailer of these don't offer the replacement grips. So, in other words, they want to sell you the whole thing at $30 each, which is twice the price for a basic grit guard that doesn't need fancy rubber grips to stay at the bottom of the bucket. I'm all for setting fire to cash, but the ones I have are basically useless. The only reason I kept the Dirt Locks was for the pad washer attachments.

Does that work well? I was eyeing that up as something I might actually use as opposed to the LC one that I have which I never do.
