Detail Guardz

The local retailer of these don't offer the replacement grips. So, in other words, they want to sell you the whole thing at $30 each, which is twice the price for a basic grit guard that doesn't need fancy rubber grips to stay at the bottom of the bucket. I'm all for setting fire to cash, but the ones I have are basically useless. The only reason I kept the Dirt Locks was for the pad washer attachments.

The performance of the DirtLock is superior to grit guards but I get it. I would not buy new feet if that’s the case.

Normally I’d offer to ship them for you but cheapest shipping I could find was $60. That would cover the cost of 2 new ones.

I hope you tell my sharp tone is not directed at you, but rather annoyance of buying something for a premium price and not having it live up to that. In theory, I could easily remedy this with replacement parts, but they are not available here and not financially viable to have shipped from the US. That situation plays out across multiple sectors, as in trying to get good stuff to Australia at sane prices. You guys have it so good in the US when it comes to shipping prices, or even free shipping. That almost always doesn't apply here. So, I'm sorry if my tone was out of line, just know it comes from frustration on a couple of levels.

Does that work well? I was eyeing that up as something I might actually use as opposed to the LC one that I have which I never do.
I does actually, I find it helps flush out the compound and APC residue from the loam.

Nah I know it was the guards and not me. That would annoy the hell out of me. I wouldn’t probably buy a detail product till a V2 came out if I lived over there.

Thanks to this post.....I ended up buying the DG and Scrub Wall. I eyeballed it in the past but was fairly content with my current GG...

I have yet to confirm but paging DFB. I acutally have V2 of it and I ended up removing it (felt it was too tight of a fit).
The scrub wall installed also adds a extra tension-retainer in the bucket so maybe that addresses the issue in itself without the rubber feet.
Haven't done a wash with it yet, but it seems pretty dang tight and that's without any - side tensioners- installed on the 4 legs

Different plastic buckets have slightly different diameters at the base of the bucket which causes slightly different grit guard fitment.
I just have old drywall buckets from Home Depot I believe. My Detail Guardz fit just fine. Tight enough to stay put at the bottom of the bucket but easily removed when desired.

FWIW, I have Gen 1 and Gen 2 of DG. I ended up actually removing foam/rubber pads as I found it was too tight of a git . I do have the Scrub Wall installed which does add extra -surface tension- against the bucket. FWIW, and YMMV based on bucket, but not floating issue...

It’s not the grit guard that is too tight. Your bucket is too small. I have two of them and they fit my former drywall paste buckets just fine.

Grit Gaurds, Smit Gaurds.
Unless your wash mits have led weights in them they'll never touch the bottom of your bucket.

Don't waste your money on this nonsense

The buckets I use were bought as part of kit that included those Detail Guardz. In theory, they were sized to fit the supplied buckets. Except they don't stay at the bottom of the bucket, which makes them totally useless. At the time, the company who sold that package was offering them with either the Detail Guardz or with standard grit guards. I couldn't decide which I wanted, so I bought both. Guess which one is still in service today.

In the end, I gave up on the Detail Guardz, which have been sitting un-used at the back of the cabinet for years now, which is unacceptable for a premium product. Total junk. I went and replaced them with standard grit guards that don't float.

Wish you had consulted with me before purchasing. I could have saved you money and more importantly cabinet space.

Maybe you're not using SAE bucket vs Metric :p

Yes, granted bucket shape can or ID thickness can affect how it sits.
I never considered having to think if it would -float- until I bough my DG knowing there was issues with V1 floating...

I haven't tried to naked without Scrub Wall, but it fits dang tight with Scrub wall and Side Feet Retentions removed as well (aka, the side feet retentions - whether it be V1 Foam, or V2 Rubber). For me, it -fits- better without both. '

Just wanted to point it out DFB that maybe.....just maybe, the scrub wall might fix your situation.

Well I have two of them and I use the scrub wall in one of the buckets. As I said mine fit fine.

I watched a video where a demonstration was done with the Detail Guardz in one bucket and the lesser grit guard in another bucket. The Detail Guardz were superior to the other style in keeping the debris below the grit guard when the mitt/ sponge was raked against the grit guard which is how they are intended to be used. Withthe other style when the liquid was agitated the debris rose 2/3 of the way up the bucket. The demonstration was done in clear buckets so I can’t imagine the results were fudged.

To be honest I have never purchased a single bucket and I have plenty of them. I have either picked them up at construction sites ( discarded buckets) and have even pulled them out of dumpsters at construction sites. They are former drywall buckets which are simple to clean out with plain water. My opinion is why pay for them when one can pick them up off the ground for free.

The second pic is me holding the bucket upside down and the Detail Guardz grit guard remains in the bottom of the bucket. However they can. Be removed with light finger pressure. As I said it's not the Detail Guardz it's the bucket is either too big or too small.

Here is the video I was referring to for anyone that is interested.

BLM. I see you have replaced the bucket handles....I have those on mine as well. It's a simple thing but IMO is SOOO nice to have. Maybe mainly a loaded bucket is about 40lb and or the grip handle is overall -thicker- than the stock one, so it does feel really really @#@# in the hand IMO

It took this doofus 1 hour to explain Grit Gaurds????

Well it's no different than any other doofus taking an hour to explain rinseless washes or waxes or anything detail related. To be honest I thought his presentation was thorough and done well. I've seen a hell of a lot worse from "detailing gurus". This crap isn't rocket science and the gurus are far from scientists.

I don't have the attention span to listen to someone speak on such a simple subject for that long.

The only Detailer* I could listen to for that length of time would be Junkman2000.

They won't be getting any more of my money, especially to make a product function as it should have when they sold it to me. I'm all for setting fire to cash in the name of detailing, but even I have a limit.

Here is how I look at situations similar to this. I am claiming the Detail Guardz to be the cats ass. Others are claiming them to be junk.
So when I find my results to be much less satisfactory than others I want to find out why I am getting such poor results. If I can learn something about my methods/preparation/application then it’s a win for me as I am better prepared next time.
Also I don’t like to admit defeat in anything I do so I won’t give up till I can overcome any issue I am having difficulty with.
