Detail of Granite Kitchen Counter Tops and Granite on Kitchen Walls

Counter Tops - 3 Coats of Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant

Walls and Cabinet End - 2 Costs Wolfgang Deep Gloos Paint Sealant

Done over 48 Hours.

My wife always has something to say about how much time I spend detailing my cars so I thought I would do a little work in her kitchen.

Awesome, love it. Done ours with AIO before.:applause:
 
The guy that put in our counter tops used the PC to do finial polishing on them. You can use a little compound and foam pad just like on the car surface.:cheers:

I have done a lot of store work including the kitchen in the pictures. Compound will work ok on softer stone like marble but does not do much on harder stone like granite. For stone I use a wet polisher. It is a rotary with a water hookup. You hook a hose up to it and adjust the water to cool off the store. It takes 4" pads with a hole in the center. The water comes out through the hole in the pad. The pads are plastic with small diamond chips in them. They velcro on just like a normal rotary or PC pad. I have pad in grits form 60 to 8500. The following is a picture of it:

Cool Gary. Dont try to sitt on the counter, you could slide of and hurt yourself....

8500 grit! thats almost finer than paper.

So could you use the PC for this type of work. My wife looked at what you did and she give's me an elbow as a hint thanks Gary :D

Your kichen costs more than my house! So did you use the water polishing gizmo, or the PC, or by hand with the Wolfgang on the counters?
 
Is it safe to place food on couter topes were sealants and AIO type products have been used? I don't mean put a steak on the counter and have at it, I mean say something falls off the plate onto the counter would it be good to eat?

That's what I'm wondering as well. I understand AIO is good on formica and until we remodel our kitchen I thought I might try AIO on the countertops, but I'm concerned about the food safety issue.
 
RTexasF, I did all the labor in the kitchen myself, including the cabinets, electrial, plumbing, stone work, carpentry, drywall. The most work was demolishing the whole old ceiling and putting in a tray ceiling with 3 trays. The cost was not to bad considering. I'm sure if I would had paid someone else to to it the cost would have been twice as much or more. I put all the old kitchen cabinets in my garage which gave me a lot more storage out there. I use the water polisher with the diamonds pads to get the scraches out of the granite. The granite is really hard. If you tried it with compound and a rotary or pc it would take you a very long time. I put the Wolfgang DGPS on my hand.

wytstang/reddwarf, My wife never prepares food on the actual counter top. Most counter tops have germs and I would not recommend preparing food on any counter top. I have used sealant and waxes on stone counter tops and dinning room tables for years. I did a fossil stone counter top in my old house and I have had a marble dinning room table for over 10 years. I certainly would not recommend drinking any sealant or wax. You are more likely to intake more sealant by getting it on your hands when detailing then you will from a sealed counter top that was been washed afterwords.

Nica, I did not post the pictures to cause you any work. It's really tuff having the kitchen tore up. It took me about 3 months to remodel it. I spent over a month just redoing the ceiling. I'm sure you could use a PC to put the sealant on but it was easy to do my hand.


Truls, The 8500 grit diamond pad really puts a nice shine to the stone without any sealant or wax.

Gary, you did all that work your self wow. You’re very skilled. I have a few Italian friends who build houses and man can they build houses. I love how the granite looks, it adds character to the house if you ask me.

Yea I hear you buddy, I'm just starting to tear up the upstairs bathroom and so far so good. I have a friend that dropped a construction bin in front of my house and I think he's going to have to empty that thing a few times before I'm done with it.

I really like how you add that personal touch to the work you do. I'm big on doing things your self, I was raised that way. I wish I knew more about construction though, I'm afraid my knowledge on building things is limited so I ask for advise...lots of advise.

I'm a hands on type of person. I think I got it from my father. He would always do everything himself. If I don't know how to do something I learn how. I'm not affraid to try just about anything. In Florida the workmenship of most people seems very poor. Everytime I haved hired someone to do something I'm always disappointed in there work.

Grimm, I told my wife not to get the counter wet for a couple of days until the sealant cured. The only thing she said was when can I use the counter again. The only thing I think she thinks is she's glad she can use the counter again. She did appreciate it after I remodeled the kitchen.
 
Taking a hint from this, I will be detailing the bathroom sink sometime this week. I look forward to my parents calling me crazy!
