While at home today, I was cleaning out my truck and brought my sample sized bottles in for refilling. The client of this car (my 5 year old son) came up to me with this in his hand.
"Daddy, this the shiniest one I have. Can you wax and buff it for me like those big cars you do?" was what I heard.
My eyes watered up and I said, "Heck ya boy!"

Here's the process:

Washed with Dawn
(Used bathroom sink and terry wash cloth. I was assisted by my son. Do not give me slack about using it!)
No claying was needed. I guess I could have used a pencil eraser. Dryed with wife's hairdryer.

Meguiar's #80
(Used terry washcloth)
After my son's inspection, no major flaws were noticed. I just wanted to amp up the finish. There had to be 2 coats of clear on this beast. Polished out nice.

Meguiar's #26 "X3"
(Used yet another terry washcloth)
I let the client get involved here. He spread it evenly (sure) and out of the seams (yeah sure). We let it dry for 5 minutes and then removed with lots of heat (by breathing into the cloth) and speed. We did this for a total of 3 times. I could not believe the depth added. Simply a wet finish. The metal flake was amazing and clear. A winning wax for all cars and now tiny ones!

Other products used....
No other products were used except time and love.

I hope you all like this. I had fun doing it with my son and writing it. It was done in humor and fun. A nice way to spend Christmas Eve morning!!!!

Some nice afters.......

looking good, its nice you get tospend time with you son. I know in this day and age that can be hard. Tell him i said he did an awsome job, and perhabs in a few years he will be riding along side in your rig as a summer job?

Justin,

Man that is a great story that only a parent can truly appreciate. Children can be such a pain in the arse and then they say something like that and just melt your heart.

Nice job detailing the model!

Don

Nice work Justin. You are taking detailing to a new level Im the MAN

Thanks you all. I didn't know what kind of response I would get from this post. I didn't want to waste your time with it but it was fun and I wanted to share!

It was NOT a waste of our time at all!!! That was really cool what you did with your son, Justin. An awesome way to spend some time together. That was a really nice post, and made me smile.
By the way, awesome flake pop and nice deep color. Should've had some "Before" shots. :D
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

Very nice job and story Justin. How many hours did it take you to detail this one?

That is a totally precious moment, and it was cool.

I glanced it over then saw the toy car - comedy!!!! Went back and read it properly... dawn...lol!! Nice choice there.;)
You go Dad!! You are the man!! What a wonderful story!!! :) :grouphug:
Merry Christmas!!
Luv,
Lauren

Wow see that paint POP!! Nice...ver nice.

That has got the best pictures I have seen you take, specially with the overhead shot nice....I like.

That is the best way to spend Christmas Justin.

Thanks again guys!
The pics came out better than most that I take of the full size vehicles. My camera really surprises me for the cost.

I have a ton of model cars, collected them since I was little, everything from regular store bought, to building kits, to the $$$ Frankin Mint ones. Have them in glass enclosures, and actually thought about doing that (clean/wax each one, hell, most like the Franklin Mints have real rubber for tires and trim etc), but I don't think I'd have the patience. I did two of my 427 Cobra's and broke the windshields on each, damn towel snagged them lol. The Franklin Mints I have to be real careful for b/c they are so accuratley detailed.

Justin, that was just too sweet. I kinda got a little teary eyed because your story reminded me of how my Dad would always take the time to let me "help" him in his workshop. He's been gone for 19 years but I'll always remember the time he spent with me. Your son will always remember the Christmas Detail with Daddy.
Merry Christmas

Justin, of course that wasn't a waste of time:applause:It was great!.....I read it word for word and took my time doing so because of your "details";) You should print it and show it to him sometime at a later date and I bet he remembers! Good job man!

Merry Christmas to you and your nice little family.

Dennis

I have about 30 of the Nascar 1:24 Action Cars. Some are over a 500.00 market value. I might have to break them out an detail them. That would require me doing a write up with pics.

LOL!

made me laugh haha, i think the farthest i have gone was using crystal mist on my 350Z model

Justin: as a Dad and Grandfather (a bunch of both), that was GREAT! Way to go!

I put a smile on my face and probably everyone that has looked at this thread.

In my Mon-Fri job of selling to prison and police facilities, I often see the result of poor to no parenting and it's heartbreaking.

Thanks for the uplifting and funny post. You should print the entire thread and put them in a binder.
