Detailed: 2001 Ford Mustang - Zinc Yellow

After ten years I bet you made it look better than it looked on the showroom floor.

You client should be extremely happy.

Wow what a great turnaround!

Thanks Danny!

Great job.

Thank you.

Hello Marc,

As the owner of a 2002 Mustang that I purchased in 2008 I can appreciate all of the hard work you put into detailing this car back to it's current condition.

I'm sure that the owner had to be pleased with the dramatic transformation. Your detailed article along with the great photos is a real learning lesson and something that you should be able to show other prospective customers. Most people have no idea of the amount of work and knowledge is necessary to accomplish what you have done.

Originally I did a lot of detailing on my Mustang and I made it look really good, however there were issues with the body that only a professional auto body shop could address. I took that opportunity last year to have all of my body work issues fixed and had the car repainted to its original factory color, True Blue.

To my surprise the car came back several shades darker than when I bought it but I was looking a 8 years of faded, neglected paint. Today my car is a daily driver but also a show car.

I'll include a few pictures to show what I have done so far.

Anyway, you can be very proud of the wonderful job you did for this customer and I would not be surprised if he did not refer other people to you. That's how you make a name for yourself!

Thanks for the compliments and very detailed response Midnight Blue!!! I appreciate the time and effort.

Your car looks amazing too! The color is really rich and the gloss is very deep. You did a phenomenal job as well! Mind if I ask what process did you do to your car?

Awesome turn around! Your hard work really paid off! I'm sure the customer was blown away!

Thanks a lot! Yeah the customer was blown away. He already called me an expert LOL!! I was like nahhh I'm far away from that. He hasn't seen the work of Mike Philips or Chad (RaskyR1) yet.

After ten years I bet you made it look better than it looked on the showroom floor.

You client should be extremely happy.

Thanks for the compliments man! :)

Thanks a lot Chad!!! It's good to hear that coming from you.

Hi Marc,

Thank you for your comments about my 2002 Mustang. What you see today in the photos I posted is the culmination of 3 years of restoration.

After I had the car repainted I was advised by the paint shop to allow the paint to cure which meant that I was not to polish or wax the car for two months! Mentally, this was the hardest thing for me to do but I followed their advise and I'm glad that I did.

In preparing my car for the Ford Nationals at Carlisle, PA in June, I used my Griot's Garage Orbital Polisher and a number of Griot's Garage products. First, after carefully washing and drying the car I used their clay bar and Speed Shine to remove any contaminants from the paint. To speed things up I used their special pads which allowed me to use my 6" orbital polisher to clay bar the car. This really did speed up the process. Next I used Griot's Garage Best of Show Carnauba Wax on their red foam pad. A little does go a long way! I then used microfiber towels to remove the wax. I had to use a bit of Speed Shine to help remove some of the wax where I put it on too thick so I learned that more is not better.

After I waxed the car I repeated the process again to enhance the shine. I used Griot's Garage Engine Dressing to shine up the engine compartment. I had repainted the engine last year with special high temperature paint and dressed up the small hoses and wiring with the blue coil wiring covers.

This car is a daily driver but I maintain it's condition all year long so it never gets too dirty, including the engine compartment.

After the Ford Nationals I waxed the car again this time using Griot's Garage Paint Sealant. This product I really like! It goes on using the red foam pads and leaves virtually nothing to wipe off.

I also used the Griot's Garage Paint Sealant to polish my 5 spoke Cobra R Wheels. Not only does it do a fantastic job of polishing and shining up the wheels, it also protects them and makes cleaning brake dust a breeze. Brake dust comes off easily with Speed Shine and a microfiber towel.

It's ironic but I was parked next to 2010 and 2011 Mustangs and my car fit right in. I had a number of these folks stop by to check out my car and ask how I got it to look so good. I was even able to help a few people with some minor detailing issues they had. I had a whole trunk filled with detailing products to clean anything inside or outside of the car.

I kept my car clean by spraying it with Speed Shine through out the weekend. That product just rocks!

The inside of my car looks as good as the outside too. I use Meguiars products to clean and protect my dash and interior. I have cloth seats but recently fitted them with custom fitted Neoprene Seat Covers. The previous owners of the car were smokers and the seats had cigarette burn holes in them.

The car recently turned 116,000 miles.
