Detailed: 2003 Mitsu. EVO (Xtreme Makeover!)

xmt line is great! Im sure you can get out the swirls with some xmt 3 and an light cutting pad. If that doesnt cut it move up to a more agressive pad, depending on how bad the swirls are. Since its black your going to have to finish up with xmt 1 and a polishing pad. I really wouldnt attemp the rotary on black unless you are an experienced user. Some times it can be a pain to get all teh holograms and such out.

Yea use the Pc and you should be fine it's really hard to mess up the paint with at PC.

As always your explenations :righton: . But this picture truly is the work of expiriance. Great job, I noticed that in one of your pictures you were actually sitting down...what you were a little tired after doing this car ;) .

You do great job :applause:

Dude.....unfrigginbelievable. What a difference.:applause:Those "tilted" shots always make me tilt my head to see them correctly! Wish I could have seen the look on the owner's face when they saw it after the detail.

Justin, beautiful job! I've said it before - your write-ups are awesome. Everytime I see a post from you I'm amazed at what you have done to a car and the short amount of time it took. I love to see the different combo's you use for every situation. Thanks for helping all of us gain insight on detailing.

Truls, thanks for bring this old posts up. I've never seen this one.

Justin should make a "best off" post sometime. ive been thru all his detail posts at this forum. and he does seriously good work.

I plan using the pc on my Evo this spring. Can't wait to see the results. My car is no where near that bad, but I do have water spots from the sprinkler system that I need to get rid of. Plus I have a black one so you know the usually maintenance that comes along with trying to keep black cars looking nice.

I look back on this detail and wonder why I don't use Meg's #80 anymore!!!!

Justin...very nice turn around.....came out great....#80 is a very good product if used right....this is a good example for those who think Meg's is not good stuff....Justin showed it works well on paint ....

Again Justin..Super nice Job...The RED looks great...

:DHey Justin I think you forgot to dry the car......

Any tips on using #80? I tried it this weekend and it seems like it breaks down extremely fast compared to the xmt line. It created some extra scratches because I wasn't careful but those were easy to get rid of.

That really woke up that car. Now it should get noticed.

wow, I can never understand how an owner of a vechicle let an evo get this dirty. Great Job bringing that car from the dead.

I thought EVO's had clear coats but man was I wrong.
All that money in the car and never ever waxed!

Only the 03 and before, rally red, EVOs dont have a clear coat.
I dont know why, since Rally Red is Mitsu's signiture color...

Man that looks great! I know it's an old thread but wow :D I love the 50/50 hood shot

As you can tell from the title, this was the biggest restoration I've done to date. It's red with a ton of oxidation. This was yet another referral. The customer is about to sell this vehicle so he wanted it extremely clean. He has over 10k in mods to it. 329HP to the wheels on pump gas; 389WHP on 104 octane! This was the first time I got a tip before I even started on a vehicle.

Here's what it got:
(Actually took some before shots!)

NXT Tech Wash
(Clayed while during the wash cycle)

Meguiar's #80
(EDGE2K Yellow Pad at #6)
Had to clean this thing out 6 times! And it's double sided!

XMT Machine Glaze
(EDGE2K Orange Pad at #4 setting)

Souveran Liquid Wax-2 coats
(EDGE2K White Pad at #3 setting)

Once again, a tough one. About 5-6 hours on the paint alone. Interior was really clean so no shots of it. #80 took all the oxidation off with one pass and polished out nicely. Again, XMT glaze stole the show giving it the wet depth followed by the gloss of Souveran.
Customer was extremely pleased!

Befores.......

A very messy pad shot.....(LOL!)

I noticed there is a green pad edg2k pad..I thought the orange pad from edge was the most aggressive?

XMT Machine Glaze
(EDGE2K Orange Pad at #4 setting)

I am assuming it was done with the green pad?
