Light from a flash is a cool blue light. The shots of the front seat were very well lit by sunlight (which is a warmer light, i.e more red). Because the front seats were so well lit, the camera put out less flash light. This is called fill light.
You can see that the rear seats were mostly in shade. Shade is a very cool light to begin with. Add to that the cool blue of the flash. You end up with a very cool temperature range for the light and that is what changes the color of interior from tan to grey.
All cameras (digital or film) will try to create an exposure that is 17% grey. Take a shot of something white (snow, paper, etc.) with no flash. There will be a grey tone to the image.
