You asked about what products might go faster and make the project easier so i will share that I love Lake country purple wool pads for cutting.
I think you would find it they would greatly expedite the correction process vs. the orange pads, without any compromise and finishing quality.

I've only used "safe" methods for corrections and have no experience with sanding. Do you think it would have yielded better results?
Absolutely, it does take practice but with the right tools and knowledge then there's no worries. You would want to invest in a good Paint Thickness Gauge and do some research on Microns and different thicknesses of Clear on different vehicles (Dodge, Chevrolet, Honda) learn what a thin Clear coat level is and a high level is, also do some research on different sanding grits (1000-5000) are going to be the range you will be working with. Also before sanding anything or working on any vehicle test every panel to see how much Clear is on the vehicle. I could get so deep into this though lol I won't carry on if you ever need any help or want to learn message me and we will swap numbers, I'm always willing to help someone learn something new! But taking theses steps will give you a true show car finish, the vehicles paint will be almost flawless with the mirror like look. The biggest thing is that it's a lot of work/time which means more money the customer will have to pay and 75% of them won't even want all that and will be more then happy with the job that you have done here which is a beautiful job my I add! But like I said it's always nice to be able to do anything because there's always people out there that want that flawless showroom shine! And there willing to pay anything for it!

You got it! I'll definitely message you so I can learn. I want to have the skill set to be able to handle anything that comes my way. I do need to invest in a good PTG soon. I just figured with how bad the hood look that the clear coat had failed and only way to recover would involve a respray.

You would think that with this too right? That's when a PTG comes in handy you it will let you know if it can even handle a correction and give you an idea of what you can use to do so.
