So my neighbor has watched me detail cars for months now...and asked me to polish up his 93' Vette....has a rebuilt motor...and the paint needed some TLC to match what was underneath the hood....total correction was not possible as some parts I could tell the clear was thinning and some panels the swirls were far too deep to safely remove...but in the end I think the car came out great for a 14 year old vette....
Process:
Wash:
A nice change of pace...the car was given to me CLEAN!! (well clean for a car that was washed by a non detailer
) So a quick ONR wash just to get the spots missed and get the car lubed up for claying
Clay:
Since the car is actually regularly maintained the bonded contaminants were not that bad...I used a meduim grade clay that marred the paint up pretty bad but I knew I was polishing anyway...it made quick work of whatever contaminants were on the paint
Polish:
Had to bring out all the big guns on this one...wetsanding down to 600 grit all the way up to 3000 grit....100% twisted wool...extra cut rubbing compounds....and it was all finished off with Menzerna 106ff (nano polish)
Glass:
Sprayway and a WW microfiber towel
Wheels:
VRP loaded up in my trusty Black and Decker Edge Painter
Engine Bay:
Carpet cleaner to degrease the bay without spotting all the aluminum....and a rinse off with the pressure washer...engine bay got a spray down with CD-2 engine dressing...love this stuff...just wish it wasnt impossible to find for under 10 dollars a can
LSP:
NTS7 Liquid Shield.....short review....smells very lemon/citrus fresh...very runny...makes it very EASY ON...not so easy off....its not that hard to take off...but I find my other liquid waxes and sealants much easier to remove....overall look...VERY SHINY...and I mean SHINY...no depth...no wetness...just SHINY...I think it would be great on metallics and light colors...but reds and blacks need not apply...
Ease of application : 5 out of 5
Ease of removal : 3 out of 5
Shine and Gloss : 5 out of 5
Depth and Wetness : 1 out of 5
The PICS!!!!!! sorry not a lot...like my last couple details time was a constraint....
Before:
Like I said the car was brought to me clean...but although the car looks decent in the pic you can see that there is definitely a dullnes to the paint...especially compared to the final pic....
The hood swirls...
After claying the halogens always bring out the truth
After compounding and medium polish...
Gave the car a quick foam down to lift off all the compounding dust I made....and i just love using the thing so I find any excuse to use it....
THE FINAL MONEY SHOT!!!
