Detailed Wheels and wheel wells

I gotta ask ya as I have been loking around lately. What floor jack are you using. So many out there and I have no idea which are considered to be good.

Thanks,
Howard
I bought 4 of the jacks at Harbor Freight tools. I think they were on sale for $30 or $40 and are 2 1/4 ton.

Here's the link to the jack. I don't know if it's an autogeek forum feature or what but it keeps changing the link text to "Harbor Freight Tools..."

That looks like a fairly cheap Chinese brand. At least it looks alot like mine which is exactly what I described. It worked great for years, I decided to flush it and now it only goes up about halfway. Man, I'm bummed... tried filling it every which way I can think of too.

Yeah once you release that oil I think you need to have somebody with the right equipment force the oil in there w/o it leaking back out before you can get the plug back in. One of my 4 jacks only goes up half way now as well because oil leaked out. I tried opening the fill plug and pouring it in there but only a little bit goes in and then it overflows.

That is awesome :righton: :righton: :righton:

Thanks! It was a time when I was modding the heck out of my car and I got tired of messing around all the time with 1 jack and a bunch of jackstands so I just got a bunch of jacks to get the car up in the air really quick and then put jackstands under :)

nice turnaround! You're also lucky about your driveway... mine is sloped so I can't jack up the car on the driveway, only in the garage... and can't go around blasting around water in there if I wanted to do something like wash the underbody :(

:D That is awesome! How hard are those jacks to use? Feel the quality is okay considering they are Harbor Feight Tools?

They're pretty simple to use. Just turn the long handle clockwise until you can't turn anymore to jack up the car, then turn it counterclockwise to lower. Actually I tighten the handle and then back it out just a little before jacking up the car or else it will get stuck and you have to use a lot of force to break it free and when it breaks free your car will slam down :)

I think these jacks are a great value. I've seen them used in a lot of auto shops as well. You can get a $5 warranty so if it fails within a year you just go get a new one.

The one I have now is pretty popular with the supra crowd. A local guy was selling it for $300 brand new so I couldn't pass it up. Regular price is $575 I think.

i see. imho, the original spoiler still rocks.
a most awesome job, by the way!!!!

Looks really good, but how come you didn't do the trim?

Thanks. I actually did the trim today :)

With a 4 month old baby I don't have much free time to detail anymore so last saturday I did the front wheels and sunday I did the rears. Then this weekend I had a little extra time to ONR the car and spiffy up the wheels, trim, and interior :)

Sweet job on the wheel wells. I just hope you dont plan on going under the car with the jacks like that. That set up is very dangerous and should be used only with stands.

BTW I have had a few sets of those jacks from HB and I wouldnt trust them without stands. I also dont like how they take many pumps to reach maximum height, and if your car is lowered forget about it. Just a tip.

^ my car is lowered but they are low enough profile to get under there. If I had aftermarket sideskirts there might be an issue.

I put jackstands under as backup but I didn't take any pictures. I knew I would get comments about that :)

Don't worry, when I'm under the car I go overboard. See how many jackstands you can see here :)

Overboard is an understatement but safety first :) I can't see that car falling on you...well unless it's not leveled but looks good from this picture.

Haha, I figured I did a premature post. You seem like a car nut so I figured you had to know about stands. And yeah, thats alot of stands, you visit HF allot!
