detailers at dealerships

well.. il start off easy. i will say there are good detailers at dealerships. but a good majority arent. like where i work for instance the other detailer.. when he buff's, ALWAYS HAS THE BUFFER TILTED ON ITS SIDE and always makes holograms and may be burning the paint. ok. well how is he titled a "recoditioning specialist" if he doesnt use proper tequiniques. anywho. i have also seen my detailing ..well, decreasing these past 2 weeks. because. they give you 4 hr's max on every car. and they have to be "perfect". let me rephrase that. you get payed no more than 4 hrs on a car even if it takes you 8+ hrs. and the worst thing of all. the delership washes the cars through a automatic BRUSH wash. so even if you do a good job and clean the car good, and get all scratches out it gets ruined with the swirls from washing. . anyway this crap ticks me off. alot and wanted to give some "insider info" for some of you i guess. but if i had a choise id buy new from the factory, not a lot car ever

I feel your pain. I spent two entire days three weeks ago getting my car as close to perfect as possible. I took the car in a couple of times with clear instructions to the service department to NOT WASH my car, EVER! The first time they followed my instructions. Not so much for the second time and, guess what? I have two more days of polishing to get the spider webs out of the finish. Just damn!

I've talked to the detailer at my dealership.He gets paid 2hrs per vehicle. It takes him about 3hrs for every vehicle. He said he has to cut corners and quality suffers,but that's the way it is in a flat rate shop.I've seen his work.He does exceptional work, but after the lot rats wash the cars they are all wrecked again.He says when the vehicle leaves his bay he's done reconditioning them. If the car jockeys wreck the paint they will have to pay him to polish the vehicle again.

another thing i dont like is the "protection plans" we have to do. wich i think costs like $1000 or so and we still get payed our 3-4 hrs and get no cut of the extra cash. and the program stinks. the sealant is too thick and creates cloudiness easily its just so much bs. im actually thinking about ading a new car program to my personal detail list for true protection.

High volume shop/dealer work sucks!

While most of the detailers in those shops don't have a clue, and could care less about the damage they are doing to cars, I do think that there are a few, that if given the time, could actually do a good job.

I actually had the sales manager of a local Honda dealership say he would pay me and come in to train there guys how to detail. I told him it would be a waste of my time and his.
