Detailing during the winter months...How do you guys do it?

Haha !! It justs get a lil Chilly here in FL, but no biggie.. I love FL !

ahahahahaha!

40s, in a few weeks I wont see those temps until March

I hear you their. Im right about you in Minnesota.. Luckily in my apartment I have a heated garage with a washing bay and pressure washer.

ONR will definitely not cut it when snow and salt is packed on your car and it's -10 out.

move to florida and sweat your A$$ off most of the year.....still better than hibernating for 4 months....hmmmmmm
:iagree: or SE Ga, would much rather sweat than freeze and I'd rather take my clothes off than put on so many layers I can't move.

Just man up. If you want a clean car, it's not always going to be easy.

:)

It can be a bit difficult, but I try ad work quickly and use warm (compared to ~20* outside) water, and wash/dry one panel, or 1/2 panel (with the hood and so on) at a time. Usually works out well that way.

Man or not you cant wash a car when the water freezes on it.

Too true. I remember one evening last winter, I went to dress my dash, and the protectant froze on the dash. I had to wait until the next day and the sun came out before I could wipe it off. But that was one of the nastiest winters we've ever had.

One thing you can do is when you wash your car with ONR in the garage, fill the bucket with warm water from your faucet. Makes it much easier on the hands and you won't feel as cold as if you used the water from the outdoor hose.

Turn on your defroster next time :dblthumb2:

I try do do as much when I'm home but there are those times that I need to be creative!

If one of my vehicles need a bath and it's too cold here's what I do.

Home

I mix up a 5 gallon bucket of hot water, my favorite car wash then pop the top on it and in the back of the truck it goes. Included in my arsenal is a car wash brush, wash mitt, and a pair of rubber gloves.

Car Wash

Use their pressure washer with high pressure water only. This blasts allot of the grime, salt, and debris off the finish.

Next the car wash brush and my soapy solution. I wash the surface liberally cleaning it with the soapy solution dipping the brush several times so that the dirt particles fall from the bristles. Rinse the surface with high pressure water only.

Follow this up by washing the entire vehicle thoroughly with the mitt and soapy solution paying particular attention to all areas. Rinse the surface with high pressure water only and be sure to clean under the fender wells.

Home

Drive home and dry the truck in a heated garage. Wax the surface as needed for continued protection.

I hate to admit it...but I go thru a LOT of quarters at the 'splash and dash.' When it IS -20>-30 below, and the salt makes your black vehicle look white...well you get the picture.

Now, if I could figure out a way to do a floor drain in the garage, all that could possibly be a thing of the past.

do you not have the signs that say that using a bucket in the car wash is against the law and that you could pay a hefty fine?

Here in Minnesota they have that and it is pretty stoopid, I am paying to use the pressure washer, why not?

O.K. I'm calling you out. Please post the LOCAL ORDINANCE or STATE OF MINNESOTA STATUTE covering buckets at coin operated car washes.

A sign posted by the car wash owner, maybe. A law, hardly!

If this is a law, it's another reason not to live in Minnesota, the State that put Al Franklin in the Senate!

ok, maybe I am wrong. (Just like Al Franken).

But if it is a sign by the owner, how do you get around that? i have actually someone stop me. I told him I am still paying for the pressured water and he still did not like that.

Did they give you a reason for stopping you from using a bucket? I'd like to hear the reason.

Other than there was a sign that said so. He was telling me that it was going to cost me a lot of money if I did not stop using my bucket and mitt.

So I stopped, but I did not go back there and that is the money he is out I guess. I should be saving more this winter with ONR.

I can usually wash faster with my bucket than the guy using the dirt filled brush from the car wash. If anyone was to give me flack for bucket washing, I'd just put more quarters in the wash. As long as the meter is running, the owner isn't losing any money from us that use buckets.

Now if you spend an hour in the stall and only spend a buck or two for the rinse on a busy day then I can see where they might have a problem with it.

Heck, I usually spray the dirt off the floor so I don't track the crap in my vehicles when I get in. I will wipe the overhead door sill down so it doesn't drip water and sand on my cars when I pull out of the stall, too.
