Detailing help for a black car

What pads should i use with this method? The Z turned out incredible.

I generally use orange Buff and Shine flat pads no matter which of my machines I use and that is what I used on the Z. Or LC Orange flat pads. Either will work fine but I prefer the foam density of the B & S pads. Either way 5.5 " pads. I apply Poxy with a 4" blue or black pad on my Rupes mini. You can use your PC, I suggest a 3.5 LC backing plate and 4" pads. It's fast, even and you can cut into tight areas.

It's amazing how well Adapt finishes down with an Orange pad. For the record I used LC Orange on the truck with FG400 and it finished down exceptionally well too.

I pretty much exclusively use orange pads with HD Speed too, but that's another story.

This was my daughters 09 Altima after HD Polish and HD Speed topped with Poxy. I was just messing around on the hood to see what kind of results I'd get. I had just gotten my G21 and wanted to play around with it.

Trust me it was pretty beat up, you know how kids are.

I really appreciate your help. Do you just wipe down the car with a MF towel between steps? I'll have to find the smaller backing plate for my Porter cable. Is the blu or black pad a B & S pad as well?

Buff and Shine Dual Action 3.5 Inch Backing Plate

This is the best value, it'll save you money over individuals:

Buff and Shine 4 inch Flat Foam Pad 6 Pack - YOUR CHOICE!

I'd get 4 orange for correction and 2 blue for applying sealants as the blue will last a long time since your'e just using it for LSP.

Buff and Shine 5.5" get 3 orange and 3 white:

Buff and Shine 5.5 inch Flat Foam Pads 6 Pack - YOUR CHOICE!

And you're good to go for awhile.

As for wipe down it is a breeze. You don't have to be in a rush worrying about the polish drying up and hardening.

When I use Poxy as my LSP I let it dry for at least 45 minutes before removal.

You bet.

They do a good job describing each product and their website has more information.

I have the whole line of polishes along with many of their other products.

I'd say the key products would be Adapt, Speed and Poxy and you could always add Cut later. I have yet to need to use Cut. And on Adapt I could have jumped up to a more aggressive pad on the Z if need be. The cool thing about Adapt is that if you were to need to do a two step you could then jump down to a white pad and polish that bad boy out never changing products.

Custmsprty - Help a newb - you use the orange pads with HD Speed? What is the "rest of the story?" - Paul Harvey RIP. Interesting as Mike P says the key to using an AIO is using a white polishing pad. By the way, just used HD Speed for the first time and fell in love with it.

Click this link, I did that BMW with an orange pad:

By all means you can use a white pad, but I prefer to get more correction knowing the average vehicle will need a little more bump. You could use a a variety of different pads with Speed.

Consider this too, you could use a yellow pad with Adapt for aggressive cut and then a white pad with Speed for your LSP/AIO final step and skip the Poxy.

One of the things I share with my friends who I've converted to Geeks is never minimize the pads and understanding the different make ups of the foam and the role they play. When I do a test spot I never change products before doing test with different pads combinations first.

Apparently, CG also has a newer product out that works like the HD adapt. CG VSS, it cuts like a compound and finishes up like a polish. Its a one step thanks to abrasive technology mumbo jumbo.

I'll leave it to you to buy that one and test it out brother :buffing:

Hard to beat Speed :dblthumb2:

PS I tossed my V-36 and V-38 a couple years ago.

I like quite a few of CG's products. That being said, none of their polishes or sealants are or will be in my arsenal. Any of those that I had purchased are long gone.

I'll take some pictures as soon as the sun comes back out again. I've used the PC a couple of times. The last time I used it with wolfgang swirl remover and I didn't get the results that I would have liked. It was probably operator error so I figured I would try a different product this time around. I think I will end up going with the HD products. thanks for everyone's help. I'll get pictures up soon.

I've been use polishers for over 30 years but learn more each time I read a post here. Haven't made any concerded efforts to capture full sun shots and being mother nature hasn't sprouted too much attractive material in Ohio yet, reflections are limited in terms of interesting shots.

Here are a few recent ones.
