Detailing Lights, what are you using?

Yeah Charlie, aka C. Charlie Hahn gave me alot of great information on lighting (thanks Charlie!). I have yet to go pick up my fixture. I've settled on one from Home Depot. I have also seen the preference towards Halogen for paint defects. I've read a few turn off the lights in the garage and use the halogen's for revealing defects (I want to try this).

It was Bill's thread that I stumbled on that inspired my need/want for better garage lighting:

Yeah, when Lowe's opened up around here I was in heaven, but it was a lot farther away. It was night and day compared to Home Depot, but after a year or two, HD stepped up their game and I usually go there now.

Oh, you're going with the one with the reflectors...I'm sure that will be better, but I have a pretty low ceiling and a lot of other clearance issues that make that problematic so I was just looking at the bare strips.

I've only recently started seeing a change in the customer service with HD. They used to be terrible which is why I never went there. When I was shopping for a kerosene heater, I discovered that the customer service had stepped up. People were friendly and were actually willing to help. Lowe's still, IMO, has way better customer service though. I never get jerked around when trying to exchange or return something. Its usually no questions asked. last summer I took back my electric pressure washer because the water seal broke for the second time after the third use. I said screw it and wanted to step up to the gas pressure washer. I didn't have a receipt and I paid cash for it but they gave me the hardest time trying to exchange for the more expensive model which I kept telling them that I was paying even more money with the gas one. Finally I got a manager to okay the transaction. The lady that was originally helping me had a terrible attitude. I knew when she was helping the person in front of me that there would be problems.

The reflector isn't too bulky though...you may want to check it out again. I would like to pick it up this weekend...we'll see. I still need to find a good halogen

I have 22 flourescents (4 ft long) hanging from my ceiling. I use a Fenix to spot check.

I plan retrofitting my dual halogen stand to hold a track of LEDs

ahh..ok. I thought I was still in "sears only" when I saw it.

this one looks good? i don't really like the hear from a halogen especially in warmer weather, feels like I am under a heat lamp :xyxthumbs:

Is that the one from Lowe's? That's what I would do if I didn't already have the halogen.

Home Depot has this rechargeable LED light that sounds good. Someone said in the review that the charge only lasts 3 hours though.

So do all halogen lamps burn out fairly quickly? The bulbs from the firs set of Utilitechs burned out way fast. This new set I got I had the bulb burn out after about 8 hour.

That won't put out nearly the amount of light I would need

Yeah someone wrote that it puts out whats equivelent to 60 watts. Back to the drawing board.

Out of all of the lights I have invested in, my LED headlamp is the one I use the most, by far.

I have metallic black paint, and the halogens are too bright, much like Alko asked if it was even possible a page back.

The metallic flake reflects so much light that I can't see the micro-hazing that I can with my LED head lamp.

My led head lamp is both dimmable and focusable, and may be one of the best detailing investments I've ever made.

It is a LED Lenzer H7. Takes 3 AAA's.
