Detailing Lights, what are you using?

it's $130 from homey D

Wow, that's expensive...I think I got my halogen stand on sale at Sears for $25...I think it cost more than that to ship it here from China. Just check out the tripod before you buy anything, last thing you want is for the thing to fall on the car.

why doesnt anyone use 4 600 watt MH bulbs or 1000 watts whatever you want with vented hoods . You would also need a ballast to run each one. it is a expensive way to go but you will have ALOT of light. bulbs 40 for generic brands 80 for sun system bulbs. Are there any cons on using MH for defect detection purposes?

Just picked up a dual 1000w halogen work light from sears! ~$50. This one was the one with the locks for the stand, $10 more than the one without. Can't wait to try it out tomorrow!

I was in & out doing this Lambo Gallardo. wet sanded and removed scratches. Menzerna to the rescue with my Flex! i was using my tripod & my Brinkman inside!

1969 Charger almost 600 horses. the area is always dusty, but i managed to get WGDGPS & Souveran on this baby. it's a show car. tripod is somewhere.

This older R & R was in good shape. just a wash & wax. lighting was in the bay behind the car!

I have an MH light that I use. I got it in the industrial section of HD. I hotwired it to use with an extension cord.

I use it a lot, but not nearly as much as my led head lamp.

where did you get the led head lamp

Amazon.com (~$40-$50)

LED Lenzer H7 (Not the h7r which is rechargeable.. I like to be able to put in fresh AAA's)(focusable and dimmable).

THE best light for defect spotting / removal imo.

Out of all of the lights I have invested in, my LED headlamp is the one I use the most, by far.

I have metallic black paint, and the halogens are too bright, much like Alko asked if it was even possible a page back.

The metallic flake reflects so much light that I can't see the micro-hazing that I can with my LED head lamp.

My led head lamp is both dimmable and focusable, and may be one of the best detailing investments I've ever made.

It is a LED Lenzer H7. Takes 3 AAA's.

I just ordered the Fenix hp11 I hope I like it as much as you like your headlamp....

I have one. It is works fairly well. The light is not that well dispersed so you may need to move your head in various directions to check something. I have just removed it and used it in one hand like a small flashlight to see check certain things.

It is amazingly well balanced on the head with the battery at the rear but getting the strap on it initially seemed like a Chinese puzzle.

I got the 500w Utilitech's from Lowe's however I'd advised against getting these...they are terrible. The bulbs burn out after about 8 hours. I'll be taking these back AGAIN! I am looking to get a single Kobalt halogen for the floor and maybe the Craftsman 500w dual halogen from Sears. FYI the single Kobalt halogens come with an outlet built in them to run other tools.

:iagree:

One bulb burns out I replace that then the other burns out. A huge pain!

I picked up a dual set of halogens at Lowes. Kobalt twin halogen. Each lamp has a 500 watt bulb and a 250 watt bult. They are also each removable from the stand. I believe they cost me around $150 but well worth the money.

Hi Al,

That is kind of what I am expecting (hoping for).... Well lit area immediately in front of me ie when polishing... much cooler than halogens which I am migrating away from due to heat.

I just returned the utitechs.... They are TERRIBLE!!! This was my second set and you're absolutely correct...you replace one and then the other burns out. I took the bulbs out before I took it back. I'm getting the Kobalt dual halogens.

Halogen heat...ugh! I'm looking to find some led panels decently priced.
