Detailing over factory paint with orange peel

View attachment 17592View attachment 17593View attachment 17594New to this forum hi mike Phillips or anyone,I have a 2009 accord that I feel that I take pretty good care of , and I do look to get that mirror look , but is it good to try to buff out the factory paint texture or orange peel ? , I do have a nice good shine and no swirls . And #2. Using a paint thickness gauge which reading is best to use mils or microns ?

Are you asking to remove the orange peel?

I wouldn't recommend color sanding the car till the orange peel is gone unless it had additional layers of clear coat.

You can achieve a mirror like finish w/o wet sanding the whole car. However it will look alot better if you did!
Im a detailer of 20 years so if you are a beginner please dont wet sand your car you'll end up disappointed.
If you are experienced at wet sanding then go for it!

A car can be wet sanded to remove the stock orange peel? Wouldn't that leave the clear coat to thin?

I asked some people I know about a car they did and they said it had 6 layers of clear coat, doesn't a normal car only have 3?

I could do it without burning it, I always thought those type of finishes were for custom paint jobs like custom class cars.

You can wet sand factory finish, use 2000 grit and synthetic cutting cream.
Yes the clear coat will be thinner but shouldnt harm anything.

2000 is easy also cool will look into it.

Oh and If I do color sand it to 2000 would I even have to clay it? I feel more comfortable color sanding than claying.
