DG 501/601 or DP Poli-Coat

Looking for a few opinions. Going to get my dark grey tacoma ready for winter. Truck is less than a year old and in good shape. I have both of these on hand and want to know what you'd use to put under a coat of Collinite 845.

Should I DP Poli-coat then 845 or DG 501/601 combo then 845?
Heck, I don't know if it'll work but we can combine DP and 601 together then top it with 845.

Be sure to answer why you went how you did. I like seeing how people with more experience than me think through these decisions.

501/601 + Colli = unbeatable protection. Plus it's easy. Mix the 501/601 at 4:1 and you're only talking doing 2 steps.

 
This May I did one application of Duragloss 501 and one application of Collinite 845 and both vehicles were still beading after 6 months, despite the fact that we just had in Oklahoma the hottest month on record in the US.
 
I agree with you richy. DG was my go to right up to the time I OCed
 
Wow, looks like the DG is the undeniable favorite. I'd picked it up for the fiance's car, but may be using it on the truck too now.

I've used the Policoat. It lasts a long time (6m+) but has to cure 12 hours before you top it. If I do the 501/601, how long do I let it cure?

I bought the 501 for its cleaning ability and cause it lasts a long time. Should I put it on with a microfiber/terri cloth applicator or a yellow foam one? I'm leaning toward the cloth one because it might have a little more cleaning ability, and i don't have to waste my pinnacle applicators. (can't find anything comparable OTC) I'm also going to say it's a work in, haze then buff off procedure.

I'm not very familiar with Duragloss products other then their 901 car wash which I love. Maybe someone could explain how Duragloss 601 works. Here's a quite directly from the page.

"Duragloss Polish Bonding Agent is similar to an epoxy (A&B) and bonds chemically when it comes into contact with durable polishes. Duragloss PBA will double the durability and protection of polishes when applied prior to polishing."

I have always understood polishing is generally abrasive and will remove sealants, waxes, minor surface defects etc so how would applying Duragloss 601 prior to polishing provide any benefit? :dunno:

Because in the Duragloss lexicon (and Zaino...hmmm), a "polish" is what we would call an LSP (as in, "durable polish").

I have used this combo and it is some serious long lasting protection.

I just stripped it off to apply Cquartz and DG Beta Polish in a test area and I had a heck of a time removing it despite it being on for 4 months + on a vehicle that is outside 24/7.

3 washes with CG Wash & Clear with Dawn added would not do it. I followed that with Griots Paint Prep to finally strip it off.

For this price range of products it is hard to beat the protection , ease of use and looks.

If you want cleaning ability, use 501 with a DA and a white LCC or B & S pad. By hand, a mf app will do ok.
The reason for 601 is 2 fold. #1: it causes the polish/sealant to last longer. #2: it flash cures the product it goes with so it can be instantly topped. You can do this one of two ways, either 601 first and then 501 or 105 or whatever on top of it after it hazes. (DO NOT REMOVE THE 601!). Or, how I do it is to mix 4 parts of 501 or 105 or whatever to 1 part 601. Apply the mix, let haze, remove.
Hope that helps. I've written lots on here about mixing 601, it works great!

Can I mix 601 and 111? Does 111 have acrylic in it?
 
Thanks Richy! You are right, you have written a lot on here about the DG products. Your posts are the reasons I bought it to try out. Seemed almost too good to be true for what you pay. Originally I was going to use it on her car, but now looks like it'll be going on my truck too. It'll be interesting to see how long the DG combo and 845 lasts. I'm pretty sure they'll make it through the winter.

1.Do any of these products stain trim? I hate the white residue, and taping off it a PITA!
2. Do you mix 105/501 with 601 only a batch at a time?
3. Does 501 have any abrasives in it or is it just a chemical cleaner?

3. Does 501 have any abrasives in it or is it just a chemical cleaner?It contains nano diminishing abrasives along with strong chemical cleaning and strong protection, the only 1 step they offer that has more cut is #671 Swirl Mark Remover.


Answered based on my understanding :)

Also from my understanding, DG 601 can be mixed with 101, 105, 111, and 501.

How about staining trim, I stay away from it as well, but its nice when you bump it or miss it in a spot not to have the staining.
How about residue? Does it dust when removing?

No staining and it removes without dust. (As long as you're not using a dusty mf that is, hehehheheehe)
