DG 501/601 or DP Poli-Coat

Wow, after reading all this I'm even more excited to try 501 out. Between that and 845 my Taco should be bullet proof.

Hahaha...ya, and then some. Ask Richard about how hard it was to strip from his car!!

2 1/2 hours that consisted of 7 ounces of CG CWG, soaking the entire car twice with Optimum Power Clean full strength for about 10 minutes each, and a round of Iron X. Pretty much killed my prep night just trying to strip the paint with chemicals on hand.

just wanted to add that all the DG products are safe to work with in direct sun light! :righton:

Well, I applied the 501/601 combo to my truck back on November. I'm thinking I'm already seeing it give up on the sides and in front of the rear fender. The hood is still beading nicely, however the vertical panels don't show much at all.
As soon as I get a chance I'm going to redo it. Hopefully round two will go better. 2 months was a bit less than I hoped for.

Sorry to hear, that seems really odd to me. Do you have any DG 105 by chance? If not I would be more than happy to send you a couple ounces to try over top of the 501.

What is Duragloss 501?

It is their Marine/RV Polish but Richy turned me on to this product to use it as a deep cleaner for paint before applying Duragloss #105 Total Performance Polish. It really makes flake pop in metallic paints and adds gloss to white.

I always follow 501 up with 105. In my opinion, I am using 501 to clean the paint and to make it jump. Any protection it offers is just a bonus. Following that up with 105 (and top that combo with Colli 845 if you want insane protection) is what seals the deal, so to speak. I suspect the steps you did mostly accomplished cleaning the paint vs sealing it. Were the pads dirty after the application? That's a hint right there. Anyway, sorry it didn't live up to your expectation.

I was thinking that also. Did you clay or do a decon (Iron X,Dawn) wash before applying? Like Richy said your were probably cleaning vs sealing. I did both my DD back in November also, but I used Megs cleaner wax to give a light clean/polish and then topped it with Collonite 476s both cars still look great and beading like crazy.

I didn't even think to top it with the 105 product. I figured if it was good enough to survive on a boat, it'd last on my truck. I don't have a DA to apply with, so I used a microfiber applicator to put it on. There was very little dirt on the pad when I was finished. I also applied it to my fiance's care and the pad was filthy when I finished it. I did it last week and it's garaged all the time so it's not great comparison for durability. Almost forgot, the dg501/601 were mixed in a 4:1 ratio. I've actually been wondering if diluting the 501 with the other product could have had some effect.

I don't know if I'd call what I did a decon or not. I made a strong cleaning solution of megs gold class soap and Dawn. I didn't clay the paint this time because I didn't feel and contaminants on the paint.

Maybe 2 months was to be expected when you drive 50miles a day with all the rain we've been having here. It also sets outside 24/7. With all the good reviews I may have set my expectations too high. I will say one thing though, it looked fantastic after I put it on.

I will give the DG105 a go when the weather and work allows. Rwright going to send me a couple ounces to try out (and I do greatly appreciate it). It amazes me how nice the people here are. Truly amazes me.

Thanks,
Chris

Al, I have not. We were away over the holidays and I hadn't spoken to Jerry in a while. He says he's sending me a sample to try. It's been nuts at work too, so I don't know if I'll get a decent chance to try it out or not. We've had a ton of rain this winter too, so that is depressing. I sure don't feel like cleaning the car when I know it's going to rain in another day or two again!
Having said all that, I am looking very forward to trying it out. I am a HUGE fan of ONR, so that bar has been set extrememly high IMO.
