DG-601/501/105 combo exploded!

As previously mentioned the big bomb had THREE products mixed together not just two.

I have never heard of this mixture, if yall dont mind me asking what is the correct mixtures of these products and what are the benefits?

The way 501 and 105 are used with 601 is to apply 601 when hazed wipe off with 105 or 501. This a two step process.

This can be changed to a one step process by mixing 105 or 501 with 601 with a 4:1 ratio. The benefit of using either 105 or 501 with 601 are fast curing and increased durability.

My mixture was only two products, 601/501, and mixed in a similar bottle as the clear coat polish (clear, or pale blue) bottle next to the applicator in Bobby's picture.

Bobby, I probably couldn't reproduce what happened if I tried. The red seal fits tight enough into the bottle that it actually forces some air into the bottle as you push the seal in. Perhaps that, along with a slight temperature change could have caused it.

You guys would have loved to have seen the look on my wifes face. Reminded me of one of those bug-eyed emoticons.

At any rate, one thing I already like about the product mix, even though I've yet to use it, is the consistancy of the mix. It's not too thick or too thin, but just right. I recently received a sample of a similar Black Fire product (at least in color) from AG and it was extremely thin...to the point I thought it was bad.

Hmmm interesting. So just mix 601 with 501 and polish like normal. I need to try this.

I've been mixing 601 and 501 in a bottle, and 601 and 501 in a nother bottle for about 2 years now and have never had any issue. however i only mix up enough to use on the vehicile i'm currently working on, as i do not like to let the mixed products sit in the bottle for more than a few hours... I just notice they start to get 'hard', almost like JB Weld.

How do you mix it then Richard? I've always done it in a plastic squeeze bottle for ease of dispensing.

The same way you do Richy. I mix 1/2oz DG 601 and 2oz DG 501 in an upside down 3oz travel bottle found at Walmart, shake it very well then use it. Then I mix 1/2oz DG 601 and 2oz DG 105 in another bottle and repeat. I never mix all 3 in the same bottle.

I have been using this same process for 2 years with no ill effects. In fact I found a bottle in my garage from last year that still had a mix in it and guess what? It hasn't exploded. Like duck commander said though, it just hardens up. Which brings up another point, if the mix is that hard inside the bottle think of the layer(s) that's on your paint.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with your mixing, but there's no way in Hell I would recommend anything to anybody that would put anyone in danger. Period.

So you have never told anyone to go play in traffic? :bolt:

Hmm after Richys suggestion I've been doing this for a while with no I'll effects. I just mix what I need and use it. I've also mixed all three because I ran out of 501 while at a customers house, no explosion except for the customers face when they saw the results and their jaw hit the ground :)

Besides for the small mess, this combo worked great! You can see the difference in pictures. This was a brand new Highlander with less than 100 miles.
